Remember Donald, I am further from Cancun than you are (6-hr flight), and there are fewer flight options from Vancouver. The best possible flight price to Cancun I have ever seen from Vancouver is about $630 return. Currently prices are $1500+ for the same flights return, and they are selling out, leaving the flights that go thru Toronto and have an overnight stay there, or flights thru the US that have 2 stops and take 17 hours to get to Cancun. I do not like flying, and avoid milk run flights and layovers like the plague.

Had we not been dealing with the Easter issue this year, I definitely would NOT have been booking this early, and I am NOT saying I got a great deal. However, I bought some peace of mind by booking early, and that's worth a couple of hundred dollars extra for me. Anyway, it would only cost us $75 pp to completely cancel our trip if some screaming great deal comes along.

I couldn't take a chance on not seeing you this April, big guy! ;)

I totally hear ya about the pricing in the west. On average eastern Canadian bookings cost 20-30% less when I look. I can understand it should cost a bit more for a slightly longer flight, but 20%+??? Kind of BS IMO......

But even with the inflated price its still worth every cent!

We live in OKC but fly out of DFW. I've found that driving to Dallas and staying over night is much cheaper than trying to fly from OKC or Tulsa. 3 of us are going 10/5-10/13 and with airfare included we're paying around $2800. I booked the flighs with Spirit and the rooms thru alpharooms.

I watch prices as well. We go in May and the price has gone up by about $200. However the big key factors right now is fuel costs and the issues with Syria which drives up fuel costs. I always book through Orbitz which offers promotion codes between $100-$200 off for 4+ night stays. Last year I saved $200 off and for 2 week stay was $3400 including airfare. I probably won't book again until November - December since most peoples money is tied up with holiday spending. That's when I always find the best prices.

We paid $2700 for both of us (air and hotel) for two weeks in April this year. For next year, two weeks in April is over $4000! Even one week is significantly more than what we paid for two weeks.

Karen's price is bang on, we were quoted 3950 for the same room but in Feb 2014!

Sunwing has a one time price drop option, where if the price drops between the time you book and the time you fly you can drop the price, but if it drops again too bad so sad.

In Canada we cant (or I dont know how) to do the per night thing that you do, we mostly go by packages, 7 days, 10 days 16 days etc.
It always includes everything, flights, rooms, transfers, transportation etc etc. All inclusive blah blah.....

Im working with my agent now to watch the price for me, should be able to put down the deposit and work forward from there, just dont want to loose our spot!

It's not a Canada thing. I booked flight and rooms separately this year flying out of Calgary. I used the Matrix ILA Software to find the flight and a TA to find the room. You can print off the Matrix thing and send it to your TA to give them the flights you want booked, or you can just book it yourself with the airline online. Or you can book them through your points program. And the TA can get room cheaper than you can booking through TTA website directly. This year, we were able to do this for 9 days cheaper than the pre-packaged vacations were for 7 days during that time. And with the Matrix thing, you can narrow down your flight times and durations in your search so that you aren't getting crappy times and long layovers. Worked pretty slick.

You guys can book separate many different ways, like the post below you says. I've priced it out both ways and typically you can save a few bucks (not a ton) if you book that way. But keep in mind you'll have to pay for your own transfer to and from the hotel. I believe it's US Transfers that's the best deal for this (that I've seen). But you'll lose your agent in the case something goes wrong and you want someone to call. Last, in the future we HIGHLY suggest NOT using Sunwing in the future. We've had a few very bad experiences and will never book with them again, even if we pay more.
