Bad food? I can tell you about bad food - but not from TTR!

A lot of people say food is great at TTR, and then a lot of people say it's bad. A lot has to do with people's individual taste, but do people really think it's that bad? I don't honestly know what people are complaining about.

I have a lot of stories of being served 'bad' food. One time we were having a meal in a chain restaurant in the UK called Cafe Rouge that is meant to do French stuff, and one of our guests found a screw in his potatoes. Their excuse was that the food wasn't cooked on site, but cooked elsewhere in a factory, frozen and then heated up at the restaurant. Why then they felt it reasonable to charge £15 plus per dish I have no idea! Another time we were at a restaurant that had not long been opened and were served sausage that was raw in the middle. No place I've been for breakfast manages to cook egg properly - it's always uncooked on the yolk. We've been to a Brazilian steak restaurant that served me a steak that reeked of vinegar...trying to cover up tainted meat? That cost about £25 too!!

Majority of places here now serve food that's basically ready meals. Went to a place with Russ recently that was Mexican-themed. Russ doesn't eat cheese, so he asked if his burrito could be made without cheese. Waiter had to check - then said it couldn't because they're already pre-made! Again, £12 - £20 per dish is not ok for frozen food!

Every meal I've been served at TTR has been perfect. Cooked well, definitely fresh, and tasty too! Yeah, buffet can get boring after 10 days, but there's two other restaurants you can walk in and get a seat without reserving a place. I've never ran out of choice, and never felt like I'm missing out. Fact that what you pay is price of your tip is nothing compared to what they charge for a meal here in the UK these days. We've been to Margaritas at lunch time and felt like asking if we could just go to the buffet part without ordering a full meal, as there's enough on there to satisfy us without ordering something special. On my birthday, then sent over a special dessert that was two mousses in the shape of hearts, and on the plate, they'd written out 'happy birthday' in chocolate. I was honestly taken aback they'd taken the trouble to do this. I also think the steak dinner in the seafood place is to die for!

When you subtract flights from a 2 week holiday, for us the price of TTR works out about £70 for both of us a night. With food and drinks included, you just can't beat that for value! Over here £50 will get you a nasty unclean room in a tatty hotel - rarely including parking and definitely not food or drink. Average meal in a standard restaurant will cost you £20 each, not including drinks. Drinks will set you back about £8 a round, depending what you get. I just don't understand how people say TTR food is rubbish, when back at home we deal with stuff that genuinely is rubbish.

Too true Trish, unless you pay £££s. We have one, only one, really good restaurant in our home town that serves fresh, quality food prepared to order, and we go once or twice a year because of the cost.
We loooove the food at TTR, especially the Italian (God I hope Edgar has gone when we get back!!LOL), the fish being a close second. We have never had to send a meal back because there has been something wrong with it, and like you say, it's not "pre made" so individual requests are possible. Counting the days!

Fair post. We also think the food at TTR is fine. On our first trip last year, we ate in every restaurant and had a lot of meals in the buffet. The quality was good in all the restaurants and service good too. It wasn't 5 star but then we didn't expect 5 star. We found there was enough choice for us and, plenty of fresh fruit and veg (which is a must for me). And then of course there are the burgers at Paty'Os. Something particularly satisfying about them at 1.00am.

Btw I have had a similar poor experience at Cafe Rouge.

We stayed at a place called Tudor Guest House when we visited my brother in Cleethorpes - have to say it was brilliant. Service was excellent, food cooked the way you wanted it, and rooms immaculately clean. Cost us £75 for the night, which compared to most places wasn't unreasonable.

Can't say enough about 400 am burgers. Love them. The food there is good, and we don't do much buffet as Glenn is too picky. What can I say he's a meat and potato man and rice creeps him out.

Trish hit it on the head.

TTR's food is really quite good, when you aren't trying to compare the buffet with a award winning restaurant's product.

And, if you wanted to do that, then compare TTR's Italian restaurant, and some would say the Chinese, and those Would indeed be comparable. I've never had a bad meal at TTR, not from the buffet, not during the day at Margaritas, and definitely not in the reservations-sortof restaurants.

Stacia didn't like the way they prepared her lobster dinner, however. It was spiced, somehow. Who does that? I don't even eat lobster, and I understood that the lobster is boiled and steamed, then cracked and served with butter. That's it, right?

    Spiny lobster served Angry?

    Angry,
floured & spiced with butter, garlic, basil & crushed red pepper flakes

Last time I ate at City Lobster in NYC I had my Maine lobster this way - I certainly enjoyed it.

Legal Seafood in Boston does an excellent stuffed baked Maine lobster as well.

We stick to the seafood & steak while at TTR for dinner.

We have never had a complaint with the food there. The food is actually really good and you have a huge selection of things to choose from.
