its the age thing as far as why no more prescriptions for birth control... the 4-0 January 4th... after 35 it can prolong menopause, increase the likelihood of blood clots, all kinds of risk even though a non-smoker and in good health. had been on birth control since 16 except for the days it took to get pregnant (that was suppose to take at least 6 months)... hubby is fixed so not an issue.... except for this kind of thing. the good news is the whole monthly visit seems to be getting shorter and shorter if this month is any indicator :)

Informative. I just used BC for the first time in 4 years after a tubal ligation exactly for this purpose. I'm 37 and my dr said nothing about it. Granted i was only on it for 7 weeks, but it worked like a charm...as long as i remember to take it...at least i didn't have to worry about getting preggo if i forgot. :)

My doctor said if i took it for 3 months before the trip i could guarantee no cycle on vacation..i didn't have three month when i started but it still worked.

I can't say I am a fan of the endometrial ablation - I had it in October 2010, everything went fine for a while, but a year later I started having these pains in my lower ab, it seemed to be around the time of my cycle even though I didn't have one, and would also go on and off for the next two weeks. My Dr. has sent me to have my colon checked (they always want to say spastic colon) but it was fine, now he thinks maybe endometriosis, which there isn't any real way of telling without another procedure then there isn't much treatment except hormones or hysterectomy...I truly believe that is related to the ablation, maybe scar tissue from it, who knows, but the pain is real and can really knock me off my feet, I have found that I can monitor and control it if I take three tylenol early enough, so I am just dealing with it now, may do more later.
So..long story short, those "quick fixes" are not always best in the long run.

Dr. Oz recommends women in perimenopause to take BC pills if they are having major PMS symptoms. Most of these women are in their late 30's & 40's. As long as you are not a smoker and in good health, it is now supposedly ok.

With that said, I highly recommend the pill for over active ovaries, perimenopausal rage and controlling the flow. :)

Not a chick, but I can tell you exactly how Stacia handled it.

She didn't wear a thong to the pool. She drank a lot. She had a great time. She kept her parts which needed covering, covered, remained as comfortable as she could, and didn't let it dampen her vacation any more than possible.

I, however, drank WAY more than usual. Just sayin'...

Hi, there is medication you can take to stop/postpone the bleed, very effective. In the UK it is called norethisterone, I have used it before and very fast acting and effective. downside is it is one tablet three times a day but that's a minor thing

I don't know much about any of the other things talked about here as my cycles are just getting screwed up in the last two years. I am gonna say that out of the last 6 trips I got my period on four of them. I still wore thongs, cut the string and partied. I have even been on the booze cruise and been worried about being too heavy. What can I say two tampons. I made it worked and didn't have to worry. This last trip I went not with a period but with hot flashes every half hour. Rather have the peroid myself. I have even been naked and nobody knew any different.

    I vote for Instead!

Although I rarely get my period anymore because I've used Depo Provera for so many years, the only thing I use anymore is Instead cups. They rock. I've helped a number of friends get used to using them, and they are all converts now, too.

They really are sex friendly. I'd recommend changing it before engaging in particularly active exertions if you have heavy cycles. The best thing for me? No smell. None. Heavenly!!

I went for the hysterectomy because my doctor said I could have all those problems later with the ablation, then I would for sure need the hysterectomy and would be 5-10 years older with more risk and longer recovery. You have to be having problems for them to take the parts out, and I was - and knowing we were done with any babies it made sense to just eliminate the problem once and for all - and WOW it totally changed my life for the better!!! I kept the ovaries so there are no hormone problems, and SO happy I never have to plan a vacation around the monthly visitor!! It isn't tragic, but when you are having problems like I was, it really would ruin the trip. Even Instead didn't help after a while - stupid hypothyroid, PCOS, and fibroids were a vicious combo - grrrr! :icon_exclaim:

Good luck with getting the pills, they are the best way to solve the problem temporarily - and I agree with another post - get a different doctor if you can't get BC pills, that is crazy!

thinking the "instead" is my best answer... as we get closer I will double check with my doctor if he might just give me a month of birth control, although I have a good friend that manipulated her cycle over the summer and still is not back to normal, so not sure worth it.... this whole physical age thing is just over rated, I still feel and I am sure act like I am 20 :)

and no way I will change doctor, he is absolutely amazing and trust him completely... I still can smile over his talk to me about the pill... in his calm and quiet Indian accent that I only understand half of what he is saying even after 20 years of seeing him, "you old, no more pill, you fix or use other birthcontrol"

cutting the string is also a doable idea, although losing the whole thing is a concern after drinking all day!

got my 2 teeny bottoms ready, with a full one for just in case!
