No, but I’m not leaving the resort at night going to sketchy areas either. Same as here in the US. I went in February and had no issues that concerned me. Also took a private transfer to the airport. Hope to see you there!
Has it changed? the state of Tamaulipas, where Matamoros is, has been a "Do Not Travel To" state for some time now.
I don't think that's new, same as its been for awhile...probably right around the time of the shootings on the beach
Thank you for the response 19 days and counting Can't wait to get away from the snow and cold and soak in some Vitamin D.
Just wanted to chime in a little. Cancun is quite safe. As with almost anywhere else in the world that has people in it, there can be the possibility of danger. Staying at the resort (and not leaving) is probably the safest way to go. There is security at the resort itself and the national military patrols the beaches often. We have stayed at all-inclusives (Temptation, Desire and a couple of others) and never once felt unsafe as a tourist. We've also stayed at a regular hotel in the Hotel Zone, (where Coco Bongo and Señor Frogs are located) We felt safe there as well due to the heavy police presence on the streets. We did venture Downtown on our last trip (this past January) and I'll admit, I felt a little less than safe, but only because we were in an unfamiliar neighborhood that wasn't touristy. If you go anywhere you're not familiar with, even in the US, there can be a degree of uncertainty. I live in Cleveland and I'd hesitate to go to certain parts here in my region. However, since Cancun is alive with tourists and a healthy police/military presence, I feel much safer there.
We live in a very large major US city and I’d rather my wife be alone in Mexico than our downtown area. Keep your head on a swivel, don’t be flashy, be courteous, and practice common sense. You’ll be fine.
