Does anyone have experience with renting a car for their trip to share? We are going to be in Cancun for 5 nights and one night at the end will be at a different resort. It seems like for the cost of $25 per day, it’s not a bad idea to have your own ride there. I realize you won’t be leaving the resort much if at all, but it’s nice to have the ability to get to and from the airport at your control and also if you needed to go anywhere else or change resorts like we may be doing. Thoughts are appreciated. Specifically it would be nice to know how quickly the check in process is for getting the vehicle once you touch down in Cancun. Thank you!

The process is relatively easy, two things you need to consider. First, Insurance is most of the time not including with the advertising price, get the full one because they will try to charge you any single ding, you will add around 200 for the trip. Second do not drink and drive you can also get in big problem in Cancun. The good things you mentioned in my post.

I’ve rented cars there before, but it you are not planning on leaving the resort much it probably isn’t worth the hassle of picking one up and returning it. A company like USA Transfers or one of the others will pick you up and drop you off at whatever hotels you want. Just set it up in advance.

If you going exploring then rent one. Keep a few extra $$ with just in case you get stopped.

Recommend getting trip insurance that covers car rentals then. It’s much cheaper to bundle it with a standard trip insurance package.

Using a transfer service you will probably be at the hotel before getting out of the airport with a rented car. I would plan on being back at the airport to return the rented car at least 45 minutes before the transfer would drop you off.

Thanks that is what I was looking for. We will probably just use the transfer services.
