I know this answer varies from person to person and depending on what you want to do but does anyone have a good rule of thumb? We are planning to mostly stay on resort but want to have enough for tipping, market 28, a dinner or two off resort, and maybe a excursion. We have $1500 in cash right now should that be enough?

Been 9 trips and usually go for 10 days. We’ll usually bring 1000$ cash and end up bringing over half back home. Although we do stay on resort. Tipping is our biggest expense while there. We love all staff and feel we tip generously. We bring 300$ in tip money. Always 2$ at breakfast 5$ at dinners. And our days spent at the sexy pool, we usually start with 5$ or 10$, depending. And then tip again at some point later on. This keeps them focused on keeping us happy! And will do the same at the pool bar once we’re in for good.... we do have our favorite that we spoil royally every trip.

I used to think that $10 a day was good (this was back in 2008-ish), broken out in singles. Then, we noticed how many of the staff were working so hard, and we bumped it up to $20/day, with singles going out to the bartenders/servers at about $2/round... and we'll drop $20 on our maid/housekeeper at the end of the visit, like that.

Then, we changed it up and we'd bring a $10 bill down to the Member's deck bar, give whichever of the guys (apparently they pool the tips) and hand it off to Jerry, Emi, Elysio whoever to start the day, and on top of that (while still sober enough tor emember) give the $2/round on top of the day-starter $10... and tipping $5's at night at dinner and again for the bartender of choice at Patyo's, now Bash. Get a good bartender, take care of him, and he'll take care of you. Still dropping a $20 (then) and maybe $50 on the maids nowadays.

At TTR (and definitely DRM/Pearl) we hardly leave the resort except for a sort of traditional trip to Hooters (yes, Hooters, for some reason after being in Cancun for a few days, I'm hungry for "'Mercan" food) and it's always good. That Trip ends up being about $100, and then over to Senor Frog's or Carlos & Charlies or that ilk to shock the normal people when naked bodyshots and tequila titty shots happen on the bar... it's a good time. A bit expensive if you spend about 3 hours there getting messed-up. Probably $200.

    But, that's just us...

Good to see people leaving realistic tipping amounts. Some people have thrown out some ridiculous amounts they claim to be paying.
tip reasonably. The staff appreciates it.

Honestly we are about $50-$60 a day. Between meals, members bar, and lobby bar for bash it works pretty well for us.

I'd say you're fine, tip what you can and what you feel is appropriate at the time. We usually tip big directly to the ones that go out of their way for us but in general $2 at breakfast/lunch, $1-$2 a drink, $5-$10 a day for the maid depending if she has body paint/tape to clean out of the shower from the night before LOL

Forgot to mention from previous post that we tip the maid 5$ a day and if we’ve been real happy with them, we leave a bonus on our last day.
