The topic is words again. I hope this is considered by Steve to not be political. The word of the day is “disinfectant”. I have read, that the whole discussion was sarcastic or a joke. If it was, it was a bad joke and in poor taste. However this is not the way I took it. I thought he was asking if it was possible to use disinfectant to rid the body of germs or viruses by means of injection or ultraviolet light. I did not take this as go out and self medicate. The idea of injecting poison or chemicals is not new in science. There are many examples out there. There is penicillin, anti-venom and chemotherapy just to name a few. There’s also dialysis which filters and cleans the blood for lack of a better word. Then the granddaddy of them all is transfusion. The idea of using new technology to advance medicine is not new. The idea of using radio waves or light waves to heal is not new. We use radiation to deal with cancer and we use lasers to do all kinds of procedures that were not thought of just 40 years ago. We put light up our butt to check our colon.

Getting back to the actual word “disinfectant”, I understand that this is the word that is generally used to describe the cleaning of external germs, however, it’s just decontamination or the removal of such. For the press to treat it like science fiction or misguided information just shows Either how ignorant they are or just how deceptive they are. We should all encourage the development of new ideas and solutions and we should not discourage out of the box thinking and solutions.

I know some people will make jokes about my next statement but maybe they should take the opportunity and be open-minded.

If people were to watch the original Star Trek series they would see that many of the advancements in technology, science and medicine were being discussed 50+ years ago in Gene Roddenberry’s books. There are many items such as the flip Phones and medical devices that were seen as science-fiction 50+ years ago and now are being used in every day life. There is a famous scene in which Dr. McCoy is appalled and calls the doctor a “butcher” because he is using a scalpel.

I think we should disinfect/cleanse the minds and souls of our leaders, politicians, news media, teachers [yes there are bad teachers also] and ourselves from hate and bias.

Too much time on my side and my living room TV just became the first electronic causality to COVID-19.

If Mexico is planning to reintroduce tourism so soon (esp American) you'd better be 'anticipating' it....

It does seem like it is difficult for one side to not take a shot at the other. It is a shame as jokes just aren’t taken as jokes anymore. And even more a shame that there had to be ‘sides’ and less middle ground that can be found. Passionate beliefs and passionate times call for passionate responses. I for one look forward to the days where we all can have a drink together in a care free environment like TTR and differences are forgotten. Hopefully some day soon. Hope all stay healthy no matter what their social distancing beliefs are.

All I can speak to is my own experience. I am a gold miner. Have you seen the price of gold lately? We have been hitting it hard and fast. I have been working 98 hours every 14 days and have a 1 hour each way commute to the mine. The mine provides transportation. We travel 4 people to a pickup truck or eight people to a van. We cage into the mine 20 miners at a time in a 10ft by 15ft cage. I don't know why but the virus has hardly touched us. Before we enter the parking lot to go to the mine we have to get our temperature taken. If you have a fever you are sent to the doc for testing. If test is positive or inconclusive you cant return until cleared by the doc. Also we have to fill out a questioner asking if we have been in contact with anyone who has had the virus. If yes you cant return for fourteen days. So far that has been working for us. I hope it lasts, only time will tell.

Worlds collide. I worked in the gold mines in Elko to pay for college. Back then gold was only $230 an ounce.

    More on herd immunity

Sweden resisted a lockdown, and its capital Stockholm is expected to reach 'herd immunity' in weeks

If Sweden succeeds, lockdowns will all have been for nothing

    Natural decline of virus:
"It turns out that a similar pattern – rapid increase in infections that reaches a peak in the sixth week and declines from the eighth week – is common to all countries in which the disease was discovered, regardless of their response policies"

The end of exponential growth: The decline in the spread of coronavirus

Its always best to bring an elephant gun to shoot a mosquito like this.. If they didnt, there would be hell to pay for lack of response...So, this is/was and will continue to be the right response.

Steve thanks for sharing the article on Sweden. It is interesting to see how other countries are dealing with this virus. I will tell you that the state and county that I live in took the exact opposite approach. We have banned children from several places on top of the social distancing, etc. I am considered "essential" and what I see daily is that the elderly and those at high risk have taken this situation as an opportunity to be out and about more than they otherwise would. My county graded out at an "F" on social distancing (using cellular data) so others may be much better. I think the end result of all of this is that we in the U.S. will be dealing with constant onslaughts of this disease while countries like Sweden will have herd immunity and little societel impact from it.
