Has anyone purchased trip insurance recently?

If so, who did you purchase it through and did you compare any?

We’re really close to hitting the book button, but with the current climate we’d like to have the ability to get the money back or be covered in some way. We’re looking for policies with the “cancel for any reason” clause and not just general sickness/death benefits.

I think a lot of the airlines are offering no change fees if you book now. I know American is for sure. You don’t get a refund, but a credit for a future ticket. The resort also lets you reschedule twice for free I believe.

Be careful with who you book with right now. We booked with Skoosk and they are liquidating their company right now. We’re trying to get our money back but our credit card company told us even if we had trip insurance it wouldn’t have helped us at all. I can see more third party companies going under during these tuff time.

Yes. American is for sure. That’s usually who we fly with. I didn’t realize the resort was letting rebookings happen.

If they cancel your flight you get your money back

My big concern about booking in advance is that there will still be self quarantine required after travel. I don’t think my company would look to favorably on me if I took a week off... then couldn’t come back for two weeks after that.

I don’t think insurance would cover that issue either, though if you had free cancellation you’d probably be able to work it out.

Yea this is an interesting point that Elyse and I talk about. But what are they going to do moving forward?? If they loosen up in the next couple of months, but there is a quarantine required with travel for like 6 months. Do employers expect no one to take a vacation day for the next 6 months? Real nice future hope after being locked up for a couple of months already.

Assuming the restrictions don't apply to domestic travel, I would imagine they would expect restriction of travel to domestic only

In the words of one of my friends bosses ‘Ever hear of a staycation...’

I agree with you. I think we’ll see it roll off as it rolled in. Self quarantine from certain countries.

That’s a really good point, I actually didn’t think about it. I guess it depends on how far out and when things may be lifted.
