I read so many reviews here before my recent trip to TTR, that I only thought it fair to contribute to this forum. So here it goes:

    —————————

Myself: Late 20’s, recently single European. I was in Cancun for about two weeks and spent the last two days of my trip at TTR. However, I did manage to squeeze in quite a lot of activities in just those two days (more on that later).

    Check-in:

What everyone else has written about “feeling the energy” of the place right after stepping into the lobby is correct. It’s just different. Difficult to describe in words, you just have to experience it yourself. The check-in went pretty smooth and yes they politely guide you to the timeshare pitch ladies. There is no such concept of a time-share in European resorts and you are never pushed you to buy premier memberships, let alone forced to give a 20 USD deposit. I lost that 20 USD as I never showed up to the sales pitch presentation. Such an aggressive sales pitch was a new experience for me, but the lesson learned for the next time is to say a firm no. I saw a couple do that and the tone of the time-share lady changed very quickly from friendly to hostile but she left them alone haha.

    Room:

I got a room on the 3rd level overlooking the quiet pool. Not much to add here as the rooms have already been described in detail in other reviews. Yes, the cabinets are confusing and the bathroom needs more towel hangers.

One thing to add though is that there are no navigation signs to direct a person to the rooms on the 3rd level, its almost impossible to find your room unless you ask a resort employee to escort you. I got lost a total of three times (completely sober) and had to ask the front desk for help haha. A couple in the room adjacent to mine shared the same fate. If someone from the resort is reading this, please add navigation signs.

    Sexy Pool:

I went to the sexy pool right after checking in (this was around 2 pm). I had read an earlier review giving tips on how to socialize as a single guy and I have to say it was very helpful! I think I was on my own for a total of about the first 10 mins in the pool as I proceeded to order tequila shots for everyone at the bar and that made for a very nice ice-breaker. I think I pretty much talked to around 40 people while witnessing a game of “Ironman” and then proceeded to the hot tub on the upper level with some friends that I made in the pool. If you are in TTR for a limited time sexy pool and hot tub is where you should spend most of your very valuable time.

    Boobs Cruise:

The next day was the Boobs Cruise and what can I say. Its crazy and so so so much fun. Being a single guy I was the designated “CREEPER” but I have to say that Chino also played the part of the perfect wingman haha. Yes, people get completely naked and you will see couples having sex and guys getting BJs but no one is forced to take part in anything. The only thing guaranteed is you having fun and returning to TTR completely wasted...

    Bash:

On both nights I went to bash with friends that I had made in the pool during my first few hours. The music there is pretty much standard European EDM but the highlight of the parties are the performances on the center stage that happens earlier in the night.

The layout of Bash is a bit strange with a huge area with several tables and no real place for dancing unless you want to get up on the stage. The huge area also makes it difficult to socialize with others if you don’t already have friends.

    Food:

I only ate at the buffet restaurant for all the meals and it was standard all-inclusive quality food. Nothing more to say here.

    Advice for other single guys:

As I wrote above, reading reviews from other people is helpful. My two cents are the following:

    • Avoid the time sales pitch at all costs. Just say a firm no and spend those 90 minutes of your precious time at the pool.
    • Don’t be afraid to socialize. Participate in games, order shots for groups and be respectful. People will approach you themselves if you come across as an easy-going guy.
    • Do the Boobs Cruise! I can’t recommend it enough. Yes, you will be the CREEPER but you might also end up being the “King of Boobs Cruise” that day if you play your cards right ;)
    • Most of the LS couples that I met there were looking for a “unicorn” but you might also be approached by couples looking for another guy. If you are not into that, just say no and they are very understanding and respectful and the conversation is usually followed by “That’s a shame, but let’s have a drink anyway as friends”.
    • The only time you might feel alone can be the meals. Most couples/ friends traveling together like to have their meals in peace (I needed that as well after a full day at sexy pool haha) but sitting alone at a table in the restaurant can be a bit awkward for some. If you get an invitation to join someone for a meal, don’t turn it down.

I’d definitely be back later this year!

Nice concise review for an also concise/short trip!
You have done your part by giving back by writing it.
I am sure it will help other singles...especially those traveling alone.

Next time you need to stay longer.

Thanks for the review! My first 4 trips were as a single, and I agree with everything you said.

Last July, my husband and I flatly refused to pay the $20 timeshare deposit. We've been to the presentation, and membership is not something in which we have an interest, so we will not attend it again. An extended tussle ensued with reception, but we prevailed. Calling the $20 a "deposit" is ridiculous. It's extortion.

Nailed it. Almost all of my trips have been solo and the only weird part is the occasional meal alone (except breakfast--just let me have my bacon, carbs, and coffee in peace).

Oh, and after 10 trips, I still managed to take a wrong turn and got lost. Had to go outside the building to get my bearings and start my trip back to the room (not sober so I don't feel too bad about it)

I did tell the time-share lady that I have to get on a 15-hour flight to reach Cancun. Why should I get the premier membership for something that I can only do once a year? Her response was "Once you hear all about our benefits, you will book your flights more often" :p

Also forgot to mention that on the day of your sales-pitch presentation they start calling you on the landline in your room 90 minutes prior to the presentation and don't stop unless you pick-up... for me that started at 07:30 am after getting back from Bash at 4 am. My only option was to disconnect the phone from the wall socket.. :/

Hmmm...so the moral of this story is to book the presentation late in the day, if you don't have the energy at check-in to battle over paying the deposit. :)

Thanks for taking the time to share.
We have met quite a few singles, guys and 2 ladies over our trips, and the being alone part at dinner is something that we just don't let go by. Every time we saw someone alone at a table next to us, we'd at least ask if they wanted to join us (just for the meal!) and all but 1 just jumped at the occasion. We can say that evey time, we met some pretty interesting folks. Conversation over a nice meal is a lot different than in the pool or hot tub...A lot more dept to it.
Just saying, if you're alone for dinner and you see the 2 of us alone at a table, just come say hi! We'll be glad to share our meal with you and that bottle of wine we started( ooff or watever that is)! It's a different pace but still another experience at TTR

    Thanks for the trip report.

I still don’t get the timeshare hassle issues. In four trips we have never been bothered in the least by any presentation. I mean, they haven’t even asked. Must be our hobo appearance?
