Should have posted this before but saw a thread and reminded me. Last trip to TTR, they sent us to both Desire resorts for free while wife was working for the resort. Wanted us to experience them all. Was given really long tours at each etc. here is what we found. Went to pearl first. Really far to get to, straight up hood location. Outside was really not impressive. Inside was very nice. Put us in a very nice room, was actually very nice. Food was good but limited, crazy quite. Did have construction going on. Beach not good. Boring. Told them we were not staying there and left. Went to Desire rm next. Closer to Cancun. First impression was ok. Put us in best room available, which was ocean front. Rooms suck btw. TTR rooms waaaaay better. We were shocked. Once again, food limited. Food at restaraunt was good though. Beach was terrible!!!! Like 10 fT of beach. Pool. Yep, naked. Not our thing. Nightlife. Had a crappy 70’s band, then club opened up. Was good. Have a great bar that’s open also. Swingers. Yep. Funny story. Swingers came up to us, told them we weren’t, said who cares come to our room party. They knew how to party!!! Good thing about staying there is you can walk back to your room naked lol!!! we noticed majority of the people there were either swingers or just want to run around naked. We would go back but def not worth the extra money. Not sure why people think it’s nicer than TTR. But hey, we must be the dumb ones, they run an average of 90% occupancy between the two!! Would we go back? Sure, just not at those prices!!!

Thanks for the info. We're planning on checking it out for ourselves and getting this kind of review brings a balance to the ones that say it's so much better over there. Would really like to know which rooms to go for that doesn't cost a one month trip to Greece?
Interesting comments about the TTR rooms being better than those at Desire. We wouldn't mind checking the place out, but for the price of Desire we can go to TTR twice. Everything has a price where the value no longer exceeds the asking price.
Member prices at Desire in Sept / October are actually pretty reasonable. $336 at RM and $341 at Pearl. Just saying that’s not that much more than TTR
Folks appear to want pay for the ability to run around nakid (in some places at the resorts, not all) and to have sex in some places (same comment) since typically 90% occupancy (note size/limited number of rooms (80ish and 160ish vs. TTR at 500ish). We do that at home for FREE and go to TTR to let loose, party and see friends at much less cost. But as others have posted we are thinking of trying it at least once at each Desire just to have the experience ourselves even at the increased cost.
When they (or if they finaly) open in DR, the 2 (TTR and Desire) will be side by side on the same premises. Might be able to play switcharoo and sample the goods without too much trouble or time loss.
We discussed the DR resort with Premier office last July, and were told that guests booked at Desire could use the TTR side of the resort but not vice versa. So you'll have to book a night at Desire on the front or back end of your trip if you want to try it. I suspect that is what you meant, Nik, as you are always "in the know" about such things Sean and I considered booking a couple of nights at Desire RM for our upcoming April trip, but then decided we are going to save that for down the road when we feel we want a change from TTR. The full nudity and public sex are not selling features for us, so apart from just trying a different resort, there is no draw for us. We do have friends who love Desire despite not being into the nudity and public sex aspects, so obviously there are other aspects of Desire that are worthwhile, but they don't tip the scales for us. I'd rather stay in a Master suite at TTR for the same price as a Desire room.
That's just it! You're right, we just go with the balance of what cuts our fun and what is overboard. Room type is one thing that doesn't really matter to us. Even a Master suite is over the edge for us....we rather go twice in a regular room for the same money. So Desire will have to be quite the deal for us to book. The nudity and sexy stuff can wait for us cause we get all we need at TTR! Still curious though! The nice thing will be not loosing more than an hour to switch rooms and to loose the eye patch bottom!
