Guys---If I may chime in (it’s nearly the end of my work day and this thread has been my entertainment.)

I was a nightclub dj, a radio dj (with my own show) and producer (tracks have charted #1 on digital dance pools and played at EDC). So I’d like to think I’m qualified to provide some guidance.

When it comes to Temptation and resorts like it, the dj has to play for the majority, not the minority. Meaning 80% of the people who attend Bash each night will be ok with and even want to hear songs from Ariana Grande, Pitbull, etc. Top 40 and up-tempo dance music is the way to go. Afterall, Bash is a club concept, not a jukebox or a living room with Pandora. Last year when my GF and I went, I paid attention to what was being played and honestly, for what it was, the Dj did a great job. He started off most nights with what everyone calls “techno” which is really up-tempo remixes of common songs and dipped into plenty of hip hop around 11:30pm and headed back to up tempo after 12:30pm. It’s best to get them in the mood….start them drinking….then go super familiar around 11:30pm with hip hop and let everyone enjoy. After everyone gets drunk, people generally don’t care.

You have to consider the demographics as well. 1) There are plenty of guests that never get out and have fun in their daily lives. Hence, they come to Temptation for that once a year debacle. These people generally love feeling as if they are in a club and want to feel like a 21 year old again because they have usually long abandoned that life years ago for kids, a mortgage and whatever else. 2) For those that actually do enjoy this type of music and atmosphere on a weekly basis back home, they generally don’t want to slide “backwards” into 80’s or 70’s music. They want what is familiar. 3) Europe and other countries are very different from the US in terms of music. Radio stations and clubs over there are far more dance oriented. Considering how many guests come from overseas, this also makes sense. 4) Finally…the job of a dj is to keep the floor packed AND rotate the bar. Since Temptation is not a traditional night spot and there is no bar to be rotated, there is little incentive to interrupt the flow for a guest or two.

In a “real” club that operates from 10pm-2am… you would warm up the crowd from 10pm-11:15pm with throwbacks, early 2000’s hip hop and feel good jams. The dj's job at this point is to make you feel like drinking, not dancing. It's about bar sales and getting shy/akward people buzzed. From 11:15-11:45pm—you ramp it up with more current music from a year or 2 ago and from 11:45pm-1:20pm you go nuts and hit the club with everything you got. From 1:20am-1:45am—you bring it down with “fun” tracks like Dr Dre, Red Red wine, Santarea, etc. Lots of sing along stuff. As you can see, Bash is not that type of club nor experience.

PS…ALL dj’s make fun of Pitbull because of how cheesy his music is but you bet your ass that we play his songs to get the ladies out on the floor. Just go… get drunk….and have fun.

I get the “house poor” thing... and it’s stressful
Try and roll with it during vaca. Nothing’s perfect, and if you expect that, you’ll be way disappointed. This seems like a place to enjoy being uninhibited, not so much the other stuff...
