We have free miles to use or lose by October thru our credit card. We have never done this before. Couple questions. Can you still bundle a package thru say, Orbitz, and use the miles for the flight part? ( I'm inclined to say no, but, it's $2175.00 for the room and flight, and $1900 for just the room.) Sure would hate to just save a few hundred bucks, just to use the free miles. Would rather do something else with the points. If we have to buy flight separate, and can't bundle, what is the cheapest place to get just a room? thanks,
For us in the Midwest, expedia has been usually the best deal. Can't bundle and use you air miles. Might consider looking at the airlines bundle deal then your miles could be applied. Happy searching.
I really think it depends on your credit card program. I booked my flight incl taxes (well except for $18) using points this trip but I think I could also book a package (room and flights). That’s using a Canadian card though. Best to call them and get the ins and outs. I have used Alpha rooms several times for room only or maybe a referral (I have those if you like)
My card is a Disney card where you get points redeemable for their parks, but have other perks as well (miles) I just called, and the said no third party, payment credit from the card has to go directly to the airline. Guess I'm looking at the cheapest way to get a room now. Crazy that a bundle deal thru Orbitz is $2174, and just a room is $1947. Hard to pass up that bundle price for the minimal savings. I suppose I could do the referral again. Worked out great last time, never had to go to the presentation. It does look like Soutwest Airlines has a bundle flight/hotel offer. United did not.
I always evaluate the bundles on their flight times etc too. It may be a cheaper price but minimize your time at the resort due to crappy flight times.

We used miles through my AMEX to pay for our flights this year and then booked the room through a referral. Even if we paid full price for the flights it would have been cheaper than booking through Expedia or Cheap Caribbean. We only booked 7 weeks out also.
