OK-I need to ask you intermittent fasting folks--isn't that basically just skipping breakfast? Didn't they always tell us that was bad? I usually eat lunch around 12:30 and I'm done eating by 8:30 pm (or sooner) so if I skip breakfast, how does that fit the 16/8 plan?
Yes, that fits for 16/8. 16/8 is great for maintaining, but it will be slow progress for losing BF (body fat). It works for some and not so much for others. If it works for you, stick with it. Eating ketogenic and doing extended fasting will likely be most bang for buck, at least based on what I know and have read at this point. 3x36 or 3x42 fast days per week with 16/8 refeed days in between seems to be the sweet spot for losing body fat. Look up Dr. Jason Fung for more info...
It really depends on your goals. IMO keto works well for for people who have issues over eating. Intermittent fasting works well for people whos main concern is losing body fat. Personally i dont ever want my body in a catabolic state so I eat about ever 3 hours. keep in mind that whatever diet you choose, you still have calorie goals you must hit to lose weight.
I spent the years from 15 to 35 power lifting. Hence my body comp was more like that of a "world strongest man" competitor than a body builder. Time has taken its toll (46 now) and I took a long breaks between sets.....like years. And thanks to kidney issues, keto is out for me. I'm not particularly interested in intermittent fasting, but have heard so much about it that piqued my interest. I mainly try to minimize the overall cals and keep the eating clean as possible. But its a slow burn these days.
I eat every 2 hours in a keto state, just to keep the calories in. Im eating about 3800 right now. When I went on Keto I bumped my calories and took away the carbs. So far so good, 27 more sleeps.
Curious how muscle mass is used in that equation? I was 245 about a year ago but in no way was I significantly muscular or anything close to the muscle mass u would have... More of a skinny fat type of deal, lol.....I was doin intermittent fasting starting at 2300 calories until a couple weeks ago when I was down to about 1800.....i was down to about 221, waist was down about 5 inches and my arms, chest, legs each went up about an inch....so it was workin well but I couldnt imagine having higher calories than that trying to lose Fun fact....I started doing alternate day fasting a couple weeks ago and I feel better than ever. Basically a 32/16 fast. On my eating days I'm trying to hit 300grams protein and 4000 calories.... Not pushing anything for our upcoming trip in 3 weeks, still got a good 30lbs fat to lose which I'm not rushing....but i feel great doin this, and am super excited to see what happens over the next few months
