The cyber sale is a complete joke. Rooms were marked way up just to be discounted. Our room we get usually retails for about $600ish a night and the site will have it marked down some. Now its listing for $998 a night and then 60% off that...along with black out dates and no 3rd free night I dont presume they will sale anything on this cyber sale. Found a room double occupancy on Trivago for $230 a night with taxes just yesterday
I have booked TTR through AlphaRooms 2 years ago, with no problem. This time, AlphaRooms shows $160 for garden view, but the room gets 'unavailable' on the actual booking attempt. Cyber sale trick?
I was doing some reading on these sites. They say there aren't "live" and they only update their prices occasionally or when you try to book. I didn't see anything as to why they do it that way. I can only assume its more expensive to run a constantly updating. Probably have to pay accessing fee at some clearing house where the prices are centralized but that just a guess. The other thing I read was they save cost offer virtual no customer service and charging exurbanite fees for things like date changes. We just booked though Expedia and got a fair price. We have used them before and haven't had a problem.
We have used easily a dozen different sites, some that we have never heard of. Weve never had any problem whatsoever except once with Expedia. They eventually fixed it, but it took about two hours. Someone (I think @Jen&Kyle ) did a survey about a year ago and of all of the respondents, none had ever had any issues getting what they bought. I wouldn't worry about it.
when browsing for cheap deals I have heard and also seen that prices are usually the lowest Wednesday evenings after 10pm. Another thing that I have heard and witnessed is that you want to delete all tracking cookies and histories before rechecking if the price went down. If they know you are repeatedly going back and looking for higher prices then they will eventually bump them up to make you think its the cheapest it will get.
Weve used Alpharooms (in England) 4 times. Never a problem and usually always way cheaper. This time we booked through Travelup in England. 7 nights in April for $1450.
thank you to those of you that mentioned `alpharoom and travelup. Saved us $1,000 over booking through TTR directly or Expedia. Almost seems too good to be true. We ended up paying $1800 for 7 nights last week in march for jacuzzi room. Pretty much the same as we paid last year for the sale. Thanks again!
