So we have our first cruise next month (not the Boobs Cruise) and just found out that Drink packages needed to be purchased online ahead of time. So when we looked, Royal Caribbean’s drinks package is $69/person per day! That’s an extra $980 we weren’t expecting. After some researching the itinerary: Day 1- leave at 5pm Day 2 at sea Day 3 port in Jamaica Day 4 at sea Day 5 port in Cozumel Day 6 at sea Day 7 arrive at 7am Technically there is only 3 full days on board where we can take advantage of the all you can drink package, while the days at port we can drink at a local bar before heading back to the ship. Day1 I assume is a get lost or explore the ship time of day while day 7 is rest. Can anyone justify spending $980 on an all you can drink package? Or can we get away with buying drinks individually each day? It’s all new to us so any advice is welcomed. And yes we will try to sneak rum runners in, but just in case they catch us we need a back up plan, thanks. Ps I guess we could always make friends and have them get us drinks but don’t want to have to resort to such extents.
$69 is about 6 or 7 drinks a day. I'll have 2 Bailey and coffee and maybe 2 mimosas or screwdriver with breakfast. I'll hit my break even point even on shore days. Your call.
Not sure how this got on the Temptation thread, but cruise ships are a rip off unless you are a non drinker. That's where they make all their profit. BTW, what cruise are you going on that is topless?
I asked here because I assumed people on here have gone on cruises before, and would have some insight on the drink packages. It’s actually a clothing optional Bliss Cruise, that goes to Hedo in Jamaica.

BTW, what cruise are you going on that is topless?[/QUOTE] Fully support that, my partner has been topless on a couple of cruises, generally frowned upon (very few seem happy with topless even in Europe, never seen it on a US ship)..... also don't forget to add on the automatic tips charged, from our experience the service can be poor and never justify the tip... why.. they got it upfront automatically.. CON.... just stay at TTR and do a Boobs Cruise instead...
This a legitimate inquiry looking for opinions from thousands of seasoned travelers. She is just looking for opinions based on other's past experiences.
On me, the Cruise ship loses money on a drink package, but that's because I'm usually knocking back Guiness or Strongbow cider during the day, and whatever good small batch bourbon they have on board at night while partying and dancing with my lady... who... they make money on if we get a drink package. She'll usually have 1, maybe 2 vodka sprite/water drinks in the early afternoon, and another pair at night, and that's it. So, I get the package, she pays by the drink. On board, it's really pretty difficult to have someone else, even if they're willing, to use their pass to get another person a drink. Drinks are one of the cruise ship's primary profit verticals, and they are very sophisticated about managing potential loss. Remember, most of the ship is under surveillance at all times. One nice thing, when Stacia & I signed up for the Desire Greek Islands trip (Oct. 2020), Sarah69 was pleased to let us know that the entire ship is all-inclusive, just like a resort. Everyone effectively gets a drink package, it's built into the price point for the cruise. That's cool, don't have to even worry about it.
Sorry if this is out of topic from the TTR threads but since most of you travel a lot I just thought you would have better insight on this stuff. To FFC/WBA: this cruise is sold as a clothing optional cruise (mostly geared towards the LS crowd)...topless shouldn’t be a problem since it’s a couples only adult cruise. We don’t go back to TTR until May 2019. We might just have to bite the bullet on this one and get the drink package since we are going totally blind into this adventure. Thanks.
Not at all. It just seemed like it was posted in the wrong place but now I see what you were doing. Sorry if I came across incorrectly. I think @Stacia_and_John nailed it. If you drink a lot, buy the package. If you don't, pay by the drink. Enjoy your cruise!! Sindy
On a cruise, you can buy a deer for between $8 and 10, and they add gratuity to that automatically. Mixed drinks are more, and the big talk ones with the umbrellas in them are even more still. If you're a light drinker, it's better to go this way. On Carnival, the drink package has a cap of 15 in 24 you're. RC dies not have a cap. With the party vibe of this cruise, people tend to drink a lot, which is a reason to buy the package.
