First let me say we check bags when flying....we are not one of those people who need a whole over head compartment for all our crap.

As far as leaving the resort for supplies......it is only $1 for the bus.
    The bus goes to Walmart.
La Europea is across from Walmart.
La Europea has a great selection of booze.
Stuff you can't get at TTR.

I used to make that trip frequently for Fireball, Liquor 43, some decent red wine, Makers or Crown and at Xmas/NYE some Moet&Chandon.
I sometimes fill order requests for others as well.
Carting back 3 or 4 bags of booze on the bus was common and No BiG Deal.
I went after breaky, or later on rainydays and missed nothing.
AquaFit or Salsa Dancing lessons isn't entertaining to me.
Neither is watching Marilyn read another Steven King or Dean Koonz novel and catch her morning rays.
Never felt I was gypped on my vaction by procuring my favorred choices for imbibing.

But nowadays after many hours of vacation time spent, pleading and begging and even arranging, we now have Fireball, Crown, Moet and better choices of Vino Tinto.... (still working on Makers) at Mecca.

Not such a need to make a liquor run.

Anything one does to enhance their vacation is admirable

Or, wait in line for an hour for your checked bag in Mexico. We prefer carry-on.

Not saying that it doesn't happen, but I have never waited for my bag in 10+ trips to the Cancun airport. No matter if customs is empty or full every time we have walked to baggage claim, our stuff is already there.

Wow, we have waited and waited and waited. Maybe, we will give it a try next time. And it is usually raining when we arrive so everything is a bit wet.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! For those saying I should just check a bag...while I certainly appreciate your input, I have plenty of room in my carry on (as per advice from all the TTR veterens, my clothes don't take up much room ;-) The only issue it poses for me is the liquid restriction. I can't justify paying $40 to check a bag and having to go through baggage claim because a lotion or two won't fit in my TSA approved quart bag. Plus, knowing what's available at the nearby stores is good info regardless, in case we forget/run out of something.

Checked bags are free on Southwest if that airline is available where you live. Seems kinda hard to get all your clothes with the different outfits each day in a carry-on.

We've never had an issue waiting for bags, either. I don't think our checking a bag is so much about cost of the bag versus what lotion, etc. would be otherwise, I think it's more just the convenience of knowing you have everything you need, and once you're there you're ready to hit the ground running. In my case, I'm always in the lobby, bouncing around, chomping at the bit to get my wristband so I can run off and squeal hellos and give big hugs to the friends I've missed so much. I wouldn't want to waste my time having to track down sunscreen. Lord knows I wouldn't do it and then would end up with a helluva burn the next day.

But, to each their own. Tomato, Tomahto. We're all there to have a good time! :) Hopefully the drug store has what you're looking for!
