But you have to carry money all the time. If the barman is there the whole afternoon, I prefer to give him a big tip at at the beginning and you are set for the day.

The nice thing about pesos is they are good in the water. Lol.
A tip I learned from my Cuz - take a hair band /!: since you have your room key with you anyway, a couple wraps w the hair band holds your pesos with your room key.

Many resorts in your life....is not anything like going to Temptation.
Were those other resorts life-changing in any way?

TTR is a very different experience
For many regulars it is/was life-changing.
One of the reasons I lovingly refer to the joint as:
    Mecca!

Oh and your own mug is common practice at TTR.
You may understand, when you witness the "world's fastest bartenders corps" at any resort
If the mug is personalized/decorated it is identifiable.
If it is empty and on the bar, they see it and without even looking at you they fill it with your drink, with no words exhanged, except you say gracias and handing over pesos before you walk away.

I'm going solo in 14 days. What I love (and scares me at the same time) about TTR so far is that I have no fucking clue what's going to happen.

Make friends early with JJ at the resort and Chino on the BC, ( if you are planning on the cruise) and you will be fine and very popular

Max, bring a wee travel-size bottle of dish soap so you can clean your mug every night. You don't want to have to use hand soap or shampoo in the room...blech.

The mugs were very important pre-reno. As the cups they used to use were awful. Thankfully after the reno glass and plastic-ware have been appropriately upgraded. So now I don't mind using what's there. But I still feel it's best to get a mug or some type of cup with a lid. For one they are larger and insulated, and two they are easy for the bartenders to identity your cup and make your drink to your preference, even if you aren't there.

We have daytime and nighttime mugs. Each one only gets filled once a day and we are all set :)

I also bring a brush that you use for baby bottle ( to brush the inside of the mug ) ( since I love having a drunk monkey , and I bring a dish drying clothes to I put my mug on !
Mugs keep the water out of your drink, it stay cold way longer as well.
We use their cup at old paty'o ( now bash )

We used are own mugs during the day, and usually what they had at the bar at night. Service seemed hit and miss. If you were getting drinks with someone else, sometimes it didn't "seem" like it took as long, because conversation filled the time. If you're getting drinks by yourself, and anxious to get back to the group, it seems like it can take forever. Premier bar could get pretty crowded and have slow service at time, definitely the case at the sexy pool mid day. I found it just as fast to head over to the quiet pool bar. It usually isn't very busy, and it's pretty close to the bathrooms anyway.

Best bet is to arrive day one, order a few drinks from different bartenders early on until you find one you like (they aren't all great), then drop a $20 on him right there. You will get your drink filled handing it to him over customers in front of you. Every time. Tip generously, they treat you like a king.
    And Bubba Mugs. for certain.
