I Imagine TTR is like any other resort in this respect.

We tip well and try to use as much Spanish as we can. Even a limited amount of Spanish shows you have respect for their country and culture - at least you are making an effort. Plus, cash... cash also shows respect.

If you do want to learn some basic Spanish, try Duo Lingo. They have a simple process and is completely free.

Nothing says thank you like cold hard CASH. Other gifts are nice, but they can't pay their bills with t-shirts and chocolates

Glad to see a thread pop back up after 2 years!! I usually don’t get past reading the 1st page of threads!

I used the cash advice....the right and only call, especially with the tarbenders!!! The definitive difference between a drink and a GOOD drink.

Ok, I lived in Cancun for 6 months and this part of Mexico for 2 years. It is not a 3rd world country and leaving food is a bad idea. One of good friends used to housekeep at a fancy resort and would throw away any food or candy left for her out of fear of them doing something to it. Cash is king. They need to pay rent like the rest of us and candy or food won’t pay the bills.

Canadian checking in. What kind of tips are the norm over there? Do I tip my maid at the beginning of the trip, everyday or a large tip at the end? So many questions lol...

Reason I ask is because I once saw an American show up to Hedo and drop a $20 USD bill to the bartender within minutes of arriving at the resort. As a Canadian, I can't compete with that kind of money...

Here's the breakdown right now with currency conversion, it's $25 CAD to every $20 USD and it gets even worse if we compare with 20 Euros @ $30 CAD!

So, can you guys break down how you tip, who you tip and when you tip during one typical week of being on the resort? Just want to do the right thing and not come across as cheap just because our currency has shitty value lol

    Thanks for your time.
