We are coming to TTR in April. We just realized our passports expire in August. My wife said she thought there is a 6 month rule( passport can't expire within 6 months of travel). I've been googling.....and no clear answer. It seems really stupid that you have an expiration on your passport yet you have to renew it with 6 months left ?????? Anyone ever had similar situation.......suggestions.
Best advice that I can provide is call the airline that you have booked your trip with. Many airlines do have a 6 month rule and it's more up to whether the airline will let you board on the way down if they consider that your passport won't be accepted at the international destination.
Yes, renew now. I know someone that couldn't get to take their trip because their passport expired 3 months after their trip.
US citizens are allowed to stay in Mexico for 6 months without a visa. That's why your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from your time of entry. I couldn't tell you if they really enforce this rule but I wouldn't chance it. The 6 months of validity is a standard for most countries.
We have the same issue this year. We traval up years ago with 4 month left but I think the regulation change. So gonna get it renew this week. Bf passport also expiring in august. Ill get it renew for 10 years now.
Check State department website, but I believe Mexico/ Caribbean does not require six months. This is however the norm for Europe.
yeah it is 6 months after your date ... hubs checked on it last year when we were going to go on a trip
As per the Mexican Entry Requirements page: Passport Validity The maximum period of time that a visitor may stay in Mexico without a formal visa is six months. Therefore your passport, regardless of country of origin, should be valid for a minimum period of six months, however long you intend to stay to avoid any potential problems at the port of entry. Immigration authorities at the port of entry may allow or deny entry of any person into Mexico. If you have a passport that is valid for less than six months and you intend to stay in Mexico for a short period of time—perhaps a vacation—the Immigration Officer might allow you entry. Notwithstanding this, we recommend that you and your family members hold passports valid for at least six months from the date you plan to enter Mexico. As it's "up to the Immigration Officer" I always err on the side of caution and make sure our passports are good for at least 6 months past our dates of travel. I would hate to fly to our destination and get turned away!!
