    Looking for tips and tricks to get the most out of our eating experience while on resort.

    During our last trip to Hedo, booked a reservation at one of the restaurants only to find out later that it was lobster night at the buffet!? Just want to make sure we try all the great dishes and food specials and looking for your help.

    What have you had, what do you recommend, what should be skipped?

    At the Italian, I always have the lasagna, even if it is basic, at least once per visit, sometimes twice. I think it's that good.

    At the old Asian, I would have their Red Pepper Chicken Curry, and ask them to make it extra hot, and that was fantastic. Great dish, that. This past time, I had their sweet & sour chicken, which wasn't made the typical way to my mind. It was GREAT though. Bed of rice, covered with slices of chicken breast which had been grill-broiled, to char up the edges just a bit, and then glazed witht he sweet/sour sauce, so it carmelized a touch. Outstanding!

    Skip burgers anywhere at the resort except late-night. For some reason, the simple ones late night are great, otherwise not so much.
    Hot dogs around the pool are a time-saving way to get grub in the belly so you can keep drinking, just sayin'.
    Stacia said the lobster the last time she had it had a strange glaze/sauce on it, so it sort of put her off. She said (I don't do seafood) that it'd been better if it just was cooked and came out with butter.
    The hibachi needs a reservation, but if you're into the show with the meal, go for it. Seems like they know what's up. Food smells fantastic though I didn't eat it.
    Seafood grill place, didn't check it out yet. The old one was pretty good, Stacia reported.

    There is sit-down breakfast served at Sea Flirt, but it's only till 11am. For us it was much harder to make it there before it is too late than you would think.

    The dinner experience at She can be enjoyable, but only if you are prepared to be there for 1.5 - 2 hours. It is a multiple course small portion dinner, which I like, but the time in between the courses was just too long. Multiple tables continued to get up when we were there to go out to smoke and have drinks together (in keeping with the very social way of the resort). At She it's a very couple centered experience on the quiet and tame side. This can be nice if you are having a more chill night/day, but the transition can be difficult from one extreme to another. Half of the tables when we were there skipped out on desert.

    The breakfast buffet has two sides and there are different items on each (even though they tell you different). Make sure to check out the other side if you don't see something you are looking for.

    I enjoyed the Duck at the Asian. Did not enjoy the sea bass. Wasn’t traditional sea bass and was way over cooked.

    Really enjoyed the lobster tail add on at the hibachi. I think it was $40 but they gave us two for $20.

    Loved She and Sea Flirt. Would upon checking in find out which nights they are open and which they are closed (I can never recall) and be sure to pick nights for each.

    Avoid the steakhouse.

    Agree with John on the lasagna.

    The Kobe beef sliders at SkyBar are pretty damn good....best burgs on campus

    Some ideas to maximize your foodie experience;
    1) Try ALL the restaurants and options, for ALL the meals they are open, regardless of what people say on here. If you're there for one week, you can do it all! Check them off in the orientation booklet they give you so you don't miss anything. You only need reservations for SHE and Sutra Hibachi.
    2) Eat small meals or snack throughout the day instead of having large meals. Helps with the alcohol too! There were days where I'd have a small breakfast at Sea Flirt or via room service, get an early lunch at Amores, snack at the buffet mid-afternoon or from the Premier bar menu, have an early dinner or appetizers at the buffet (gives you a chance to see what they have that night), enjoy a late seating at one of the restaurants, and then a burger or room service after Bash.
    3) If you really like something at a restaurant, don't be afraid to ask for more. You can have as many courses as you want, and you can take anything 'to go' if you want to eat on the beach or in your room. We took a few creme brulees to go from Sea Flirt to walk down the beach with, and we've had tiramisu from Romanza delivered to our jacuzzi on the balcony :)
    4) Ask your server what they recommend. They know what people order most and like the most. There are also some items that aren't on the menu (sexy coffee at Romanza) Same thing at the buffet, ask the cook behind the grill what they suggest or what they make best.
    5) Don't forget about food and snacks at Caffeine coffee bar (changes throughout the day), Premier bar menu, SkyBar menu and room service (they have things not found anywhere else on the resort). There's even freshly baked snacks in the Spa!
    6) Make friends and go for group dinners. Always the best times and you get to see/try more of everything on the menu.

    My favorite meals at each restaurant:
    Sutra - starter plate (ask for more of what you like!), baked duck entree
    Romanza - beef carpaccio starter, filet steak entree
    Sea Flirt - Breakfast: northern migada, eggs motulenos - Dinner: achiote octopus, prawns, creme brulee (called vanilla creme or something)
    Amores - Lunch: rueben burger sandwich, wings - Dinner: lamb
    Flame - we've chosen to skip this because we usually make a trip to Harry's Grill off the resort, which is the best steakhouse ANYWHERE

    Some things which aren't always obvious and you might need to ask for:
    1) Iced frappuccinos (caramel, mocha), warm pretzel breads, gourmet mini sandwiches, fresh cookies and desserts at Caffeine.
    2) Huevos rancheros (fried eggs on corn tortillas with red/green salsa, cojita cheese) or huevos migas (same but on tortilla chips) at the breakfast buffet (ask the egg lady!)
    3) Banana splits and churros at Amores (not always available but did get some once)
    4) Sushi and sashimi at the lunch buffet. They will make whatever you want and don't skimp on the fish if you tip. I feel like I made money back on the sashimi I ate!

    How far in advance does one need to make reservations for She or the Hibachi grill and what size groups can they accomodate for a reservation? Can one person make a reservation for 4 or 5 couples for example?
    Thanks for any info.

    You reserve
    You reserve on the day. From 8am at Guest Services. You can reserve for other couples, but will need their room numbers to do so.

    Note: At "She" it is a couples experience, and the tables are set up for couples only, no more.
