We are both Padi certified and did dive a few times in Cancun. Yes it is worth the time learning in the pool the major difference between certification and what you will learn is in a couple of hours you will simply become comfortable with the gear and how it works and the instructors will keep you safe. When you are certified you get to understand everything. Most fun diving is at 30-40 feet of water and at that deph it would only take you 5 seconds to get back to surface. Regarding snorkling go to Amazon and buy a full face diving mask it will be the best 50$ you will ever spend. Check them out on youtube.

    Totally agree.

Resort course is a good way to test before you spend $$$ but if you enjoy it, then get certified.

We haven't sorted out exactly which dive shop we will be diving with. The last member of our group doesn't arrive until the 25th and we have a event on the 26th.

Not to be "that guy" but if you do a 5 second ascent from 40' you won't enjoy what happens next.

I'm interested if y'all put together a dive on the 29th, also PADI certified.

you are correct no certified diver would want to do a 40ft ascent in 5 sec. First for non certified new divers they will keep the groupe at 25-30 ft and as you know anyone not trained if they had a full failure the only option would be to ascent asap as long as they exhale on the way up they would never have the reflex to signal for help and do buddy breathing. We tend not to scare people from trying scuba and trust instructors stay very close to them as we have seen then do. Happy diving everyone

The snorkel on the Boobs Cruise probably isn't going to what you are thinking. In 5 boobs cruises, I feel like I have maybe seen a handful of people ever take the snorkel equipment with them during the swimming period. Maybe if you let them know ahead of time you were looking forward to actually snorkeling, they would accommodate this a little more.

Killing two birds with one stone is a great idea. Another way to do this though is if you plan on doing a little excursion to Isla. You can do this all yourself at your own pace, and get the ferry right near Temptation. There are lots of options once on the island to do what you want (golf carts, restaurants, beaches, large guided tours, half day adventures, full day adventures). I was recently over there this summer with our 5 year old. We wanted to see the turtles, but also wanted to snorkel. Him being so young I didn't fell like getting into a full or half day thing. So once we got to the island we were able to talk to one of the people selling tours and told them we were only looking for a couple of hours. We were able to piggy back on a 10 person boat for only part of their tour. This allowed us to see the island some, see the turtles, and snorkel at a good spot. It was all at a very low price (like 20 per person).

Just some thoughts on an easy way to kill lots of birds at once, get great pics, do what your wife wants, and not be gone for more than half a day (especially if you got up early and left)
