That's the thing to remember - this was definitely never intended to be a balls to the wall blowout - hard to comprehend at TTR that everything isn't a balls (and boobs) to the wall party This was definitely fancier than the usual vibe meant to impress a lot of important people. The other thing that made it feel different was that a huge number of people in attendance were only guests of the party - not guests staying in the hotel that were naked in the pool doing fireball shots a few hours earlier. So you can imagine the vibe would be different.
The Wrecking Ball/ closing party was full tilt...Balls to Wall..... and then we tore the walls down too. It was surreal and totally epic
Ok here goes... Just to put it out there I was one of the posters on facebook of all the live videos. No they do not give you the full scope of what was going on. Many of them were taken from the forth level so it was hard to get everything in the field of view. There was more going on in Bash, the Lobby and at the pool. Now yes it was geared more towards the vips than the regulars but it was spectacular. The band that played later was much more directed at the regulars. They are called the Spazmatics. They play a good selection of 70s and 80s. Too bad both their sets were cut short, first one due to a speech by the Governor and the second due to the rain. Now on to the party later at Bash. Lots of dancing in the rain both on and off the dance stage. It is a 3/8 inch glass which can get slick in rain but otherwise is fine with most shoes on a dry night. Diego Del La Pena even showed up and danced on the bar to YMCA. Many in the crowed stripped down to not much and a lot of fun was had. I left early (3am) due to an early flight. It was a great night that started out for the vips but finished in true TTR style.
SO was there anything on the rooftop? Is that pool and lounge open yet? Anyone make it up there to take some pics?
Ok here's my random thoughts on the opening party. Just getting up to speed again after 3 days at the hotel and a Boobs Cruise yesterday. I mentioned elsewhere that I thought the party would have a different flavour to the closing because of who it was aimed at, i.e people who will bring future sales, not necessarily people they wish to thank for their previous patronage. I mentioned I hoped guests would not be excluded in favour of VIP's etc and I don't think that was the case. It was certainly very different to the closing but a great party nonetheless. We paid $300 (tower room) for our day and night there, I'd happily pay double that for that night again. The start of the party was on the roof of Bash, i.e. the base of the tower. Our room was 2223 (ground floor of the tower) and we saw them setting up from our room in the afternoon. We headed out to the elevator around 8:30 and was on our way to Bash, but it became clear everyone was heading to the floor at the base of the tower. Aisha, Regina, Noelia and a few other hotties were handing out special bracelets (bracelets were a bit of a let down, they were big and chunky and I'm not sure what they were supposed to do but mine just flashed at midnight, randomly it seemed). The party started on the ground floor of the tower, we were surprised the party had been in full throw for probably an hour before we got there. Room blinds were down as requested for the light show and we didn't even know it was right outside our room. The only drink available was wine - either red, white or sparkling. Being a little shocked by this I didn't know what to order and went for white wine. Didn't like it, but I never drink wine anyway so no judge of that. Next drink was sparkling which was much more palatable for me. We had a table and waiter service was great. Everyone was fantastically dressed, beautiful ladies everywhere, almost no one went against the theme and wore anything but white. Hostesses circulated among the crowd handing out small appetisers - such as frogs legs, caviar, shrimp and duck. Again not really my kind of food. Chinos and Omar were there looking dapper and it seems like attracted a never ending mob of adoring fans wanting pictures and to chat. I commented to Jannet that I didn't think the sound was that great, with the Boobs Cruise I'm always listening to the quality of the sound and I'm sure bore Jannet to death about it. The next minute "Boom" they switched the proper sound on and the light show started. The light show, projected on the tower was amazing. Made the hairs on my arm stand up and I had a small tear in my eye.The live videos I saw don't do it justice, you just cannot capture something like that through a phone. I didn't live stream myself because I could see a dozen others already doing it. After the light show finished we all headed down to the sexy pool. Shared the elevator with Paty de la Pena and congratulated her on the re-opening. Passed through the lobby where hundreds of pastries and cakes were available and on to the sexy pool. The sexy pool was decked out with hundreds of chairs and tables. Amazing waiter service and drinks were back to regular options (no more wine please, it's vodka time). Food was buffet style, one section had Roast Beef, Pork, Chicken etc, another section Lobster, Shrimp and another section Asian with Sushi etc. For those complaining the regular restaurants were closed, it's because you could not walk anywhere (outside the restaurants) without food being more than a couple of yards away! After food we relocated a little closer to the big stage that had been set up. I grabbed a spare sofa and didn't want to move for fear of losing it. Then the first band came on, Jannet went to dance with fellow hotties mainly the female Ents staff and they had a lot of media taking their pics. Not really my kind of music, 70's covers but performed perfectly and plenty of people dancing but not in their seats, at the dance floor. Someone mentioned there was only one band doing two sets, but in fact there was two bands doing one set each. The first band was Le Freak out of Texas. After the first band finished Jannet and I hung out with the lead singer (Soda Mick James) and the female Ents staff, Noelia, Laura and Dina. Also the TTR guest (and his husband) the band had invited on to the stage to sing a track after having heard him sing karaoke at the quiet pool the day before which I thought was a great gesture. The water show followed, a fine mist spray from the sexy pool thrown in the air upon which lights were projected to cause some amazing effects. Again I don't think live video captured it well, and we were also at the wrong angle (sideways on) to enjoy it to it's fullest. Next came the formal part with the politicians giving speeches, and the owners too. Between my lack of Spanish and the great company I was with I didn't pay much attention but the politicians were mainly thanking the de la Pena's for their part in establishing Cancun, helping to make it what it is, bringing income to the region and providing a lot of jobs. We shouldn't knock this part, the recognition from the Governor and others was much deserved, and why begrudge the owners a bit of praise after their $50 Million investment? Started to rain after this so we headed up to the lobby bar, where there was a whole other group of people to party with. The second band came on, which we watched from the lobby bar video screen. A little similar to the first in style, but 80's covers not 70's. Quite a few of the travel agency/vip people started to leave at this point since it was raining and although many had rooms others that were local did not. Had a good laugh when someone started passing round fake moustaches, hey Jamie? Either the rain subsided or by that time we didn't care anyway, so headed into Bash where things get a little hazy. Mario was hosting the night (not common these days) and there were a ton of people dancing, on the slick as an ice rink dance floor and around. Didn't see anyone fall, I danced there for a few minutes (rare for me) but decided it was far too slippy for me and went back to the table. Diego (Mr Cancun) was introduced and helped on the bar to dance YMCA with the bartenders. Props to him, his no young guy anymore. Things started fizzling out about 3am and we hit the sack. Jannet returned to her gym today, and there are about 3 or 4 of her friends who attended as vip's since they (or their partners) are in the travel business. Jannet didn't see them on the night itself, it was too busy. But they all said it was a great night, spectacular and high class and that they were very impressed with the hotel. One of them was talking to the Mayor, and the Mayor mentioned Norm (aka Jesus) how he thought it great he had the balls to rock the entire night in his white thong and sandals! Overall, like I started this novel off. I would gladly pay double what I did to attend this party. If it was every week, we would be there every week. Yes, it was posh, and classy, and different to the closing party but it was certainly a night anyone there will never forget.
Thanks Steve, finally a great recap of what really went on. Wish we could have been there. Sounds as if you made the right call getting your room and attending!
The Temptation Cancun Resort page on Facebook has some pretty impressive videos from the opening night party. The fireworks display really looks great. These videos are much better than the one's that were live streamed. I suggest everyone take a look.
