i m planning on coming in October but I have been hearing that people are being advised on taking extra precautions due to active gang activity ... is this true or people are just jealous lol
We're booked for 10/10 - 10/15... we're going. Nia seems a bit nervous though, especially about leaving TTR for the Boobs Cruise. Mentioned something about ships, pirates, etc. lol I think we're gonna do the Boobs Cruise too though.
The short answer is that the resort is safe. Now........I don't profess to know my way around Cancun...........so I asked the people that I thought would know the area the best.........the cab drivers.....specifically USA Transfers. On a couple different trips.........with different drivers we've been told that we shouldn't leave the resort....that they would not recommend it.......certainly not out of the Hotel Zone. Yet............we have ventured out a little bit.......one time to a mall on a rainy day riding the bus there and back. On other trips we've done Coco Bongo.....and Sr Frogs and The City.....etc......and we made it just fine. The wisest comment we heard is that tourists have nothing to worry about. Cancun tourism is the Cash Cow and that protects the area. Bottom line..............I've been in uncomfortable situations in the US and Cancun.
I have not worried about safety in Cancun ever, and I have been going since 2000. Tourism is their main thing, so they do not want to mess that up. Gang problems there are going to be very similar to gang problems at home...mostly self contained. I worry about the bad areas of Philly about the same amount I worry about the bad ideas in Cancun (not that I even know where they are), ZERO. You just don't go into them. From Temptation I have taken many walks both directions on the main road, never felt unsafe. Now if I was going down some side street with some random dude for a drug deal, than maybe I would worry about my safely in Cancun. But if you aren't doing that, or anything else completely stupid, than you won't have any issues. Just stick to the cabs, buses, and the tourist areas and you will be fine. I'd be more worried about the agenda of America trying to get people afraid of going to Cancun for safety reasons (gangs and unsafe booze). I have heard more of this BS in the last few months then I ever have, and at this point I am just starting to get fracking annoyed. Hearing shit from people that haven't even left their hometown before; acting like they know more than regular world travelers because they saw some shit on 20/20 is starting to get tiresome.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yeah, Northern Mexico. Cancun is no more or less safe than many cities in USA. As stated by ScubaSteve about Philadelphia. The wife and I have gone off the reservation a few times during our trips to TTR. Been on buses all by ourselves.
Well there were 7 deaths and 35 wounded this past weekend... ...in CHICAGO!!! Seriously though, besides the boob cruise, there's no reason to leave the resort. Having said that, my wife and I took walks almost daily with no issues. You're gonna have a blast. Not a Chicago style blast, more of a Red Light district blast.
We will normally hop on the bus and take it to Walmart to get some things and have never felt uncomfortable. Last year we stayed closer to the clubs and walked around a few nights with no issues at all.
