Sorry, this could be a stupid question and I'm hoping it is, but is anyone else worried about Hurricane Irma impacting Cancun late next week? Just curious if anyone else has thoughts on this????? We're supposed to arrive this Sunday 9/3 and leave 9/10.
Irma is still ~3,000 miles to the southeast of Miami, so it could literally go anywhere in the standard deviation for such storms. It's apparently moving at 12 mph... but it Does have 115 mph winds, sustained. Definitely keep an eye on the forecast!
Well we will be there at the same time and stay a bit longer so we will be watching too! Hoping it goes north of us all and does not hit anywhere that is already suffering. But it is too early to tell where it may track.
It's that time of year and these storms happen. They can go anywhere and there is no stopping them so I wouldn't worry about it but keep a eye out, follow the weather forecasts and be safe. At this time it's too early to tell where it will go. T
We were there and evacuated for Wilma and the hotel was called the Blue Bay Getaway back then and if I'm not mistaken that was the last large storm that hit Cancun. Hopefully this one spins towards the East Coast of the US and heads back out to see!!!!!!!!
Lots of storms form this time of year and for 90% I kind of think meh, another one. Usually they are either heading the wrong way or not very strong. This one has the potential both to be very powerful and to track towards Cancun, so it should be treated with some concern. That said it is still far away and could quite easily go North and miss us completely. It's impossible for any models to predict where it will be in a weeks time. It's been 12 years since the last big one (Wilma) we are about due for one. Definitely worth keeping an eye on. The graphic below should update every 4 hours to show the latest:
That's a pretty daunting storm track. Hopefully she'll steer north and back out to sea. In a worse case situation, I guess we'll see how well built the resort is and see if it can withstand Hurricane force winds!
Weather models are no good past 7 days, in spite of what any of them claim. Check the US National Hurricane Center page for the best information. National Hurricane Center
Has anybody on here ever had to use trip insurance in the middle of a trip? We're going to be there all week and we're covered, but just wondering if you get your full trip reimbursed plus a free flight home if the storm is approaching. We'll probably call and check, but curious if anybody has first-hand experience.
