First timers here. Sooo what do the males usually wear as far as day and night time attire? Normal swimming trunks? What would a man wear for bedtime bash for example...? My hubby is a pretty straight-laced man. ; )
Hi Mary, many of us have scars from an easy question like this. This could get ugly as I am about to offer my opinion and we could bring back the dreaded shorts-pants debate..sigh..here goes. Again this is my opinion, and I personally don't care if a dude wears a thong to dinner. Rock on. 1. He should wear what he is comfortable in. 2. I wear swim shorts all day, throw a shirt on for lunch. 3. After a nap, and for dinner I wear pants and a button up shirt. Usually linen or some other lightweight material. My wife wears sexy dresses, I think it's only fair that I try to match that a little. 4. Other people on here will swear to wear only shorts, because they are on vacation, that is their prerogative. I just prefer to dress up a tad for a nice night out.
We just returned and almost all the men were in normal clothes Ie: shorts, shirts some jeans too. There were only a few men who went all out. IMO
Comfort is key, if your not comfortable in what your in; your not going to have a good time. So that should be priority number 1 as far as picking attire goes. As far as the theme nights go, regardless of sex, not everyone is down with participating--it just comes down to individual preference. My girl and I are big on participating in the theme nights; the bedtime theme for example, I'm wearing some silk pajama pants that are a little see through from the right angle and a tank that I will probably lose as the night goes on. For meals, I tend to just dress casually and save it for the theme nights.
I agree. This about right for most guys. Trunks all day at the pool until you grab a bit to eat, then put on a shirt/Tshirt. People usually start leaving the pool around 430-5pm to nap....then dinner and Paty Os (now Bash) can be anything from shorts, to guys still wearing swim trunks(what i've seen before), to more evening wear. I personally think more guys lean toward the evening wear...meaning light pants or shorts and a nice shirt. AND I do remember that some of the (reservation required) restaurants required closed-toed shoes. Not sure if that still goes.
We both go all out at theme night but again its all down to your comfort level . However try to go just past your comfort level and push the boudaries it all adds to the fun . Last year there was a couple theme night , you were supposed to be a cordinated couple . We did devil and angel . He was the angel all white thong back body suit angel wings halo and 6"stripper heels . We had a blast and the crowd and staff loved it .
By the pool, it was always just my trunks and I'd usually have either a simple white colored shirt to wear for going into lunch. Dinner time, it depended on the restaurant we were going to. If it was a more casual one, I'd probably just go in some of my more casual shorts and some kind of light weight shirt. For a fancier dinner, I'd tend to go with a dressier/nicer pair of shorts (no cargos, no jeans, no patterns. Something like a Bermuda or Chino). I always bring a pair of slacks with me down to Cancun/Caribbean but haven't used them yet; I find that a nicer pair of shorts can be a good middle ground of warm weather comfort while having a bit classier look to compliment the dressed up wife. One final note before theme nights. It may be due to the fact that I'm a larger guy and not the darkest, but I absolutely can't be a bigger proponent of button up shirts for all situations, casual or formal or even by the pool. I know that probably sounds crazy, but it's not too hard to find some light weight, linen, short sleeved button up shorts that work great in a casual setting. They tend to be a little looser naturally than T-shirts even if fully buttoned, with the added advantage of easily making them looser by undoing buttons. This helps both with heat (I know on the old Paty-O's it could get pretty hot when everyone was packed in) AND in case of sunburn. Get a LITTLE pink at the pool? Throw a t-shirt over that thing for an entire evening and you're going to look like a lobster come the next day. Being able to let it breath a bit, or even completely by unbuttoning the whole thing, helps a ton. The amount of control you have with a button up shirt over a T-Shirt is just huge. For the theme nights, it depends. For some of the simpler ones that are more just dressy, we'll usually try to plan our "nice" dinner on those nights and I'll just make my Dinner attire make sense for the theme night (such as the Imperial White night). For others, I like to try and participate a bit, though rarely to the same extent as my wife. For example, this year... Let it Glow / Graffiti Night - Likely going to look into a nice low cost pair of white linen shorts and some kind of white shirt, and keep some highlighters on me along with some glow stick accessories. Bedtime Bash - Figure I'm going to just bring along some light weight Pajama bottoms and some kind of fun goofy comfy shirt. Superhero / School Girl (mex fest) - Figure I'm just going to be lame and take the easy way out with a super hero T-Shirt while my wife tends to go full school girl. Thinking I'd go with a super hero with a Green or Red color tone to fit in with Mex Fest. Heaven and Hell - Black pants, black button up shirt, loose fitting red tie; the devil would never be TOO formal at a place like Temptations, right? lingerie night - Usually one I tend to just go with something comfy and enjoy my wife going all out, but she's threatening to make me go in the tuxedo underwear she got as a joke on the honeymoon. I think I'm going to compromise with her and go with the Boxers version instead of the thong -.- Imperial White / Greek - IF my white shorts didn't get wrote all over, that and a nice white shirt. Or tried and true: Toga, Toga, Toga The thing is, as my wife routinely will poke me and point out, guys have it a little easier at times. Plus, it's hit or miss how many guys participate, so even if you go kind of light into it like I do, you still tend to stand out as someone who's embracing the thing and having fun with it. So I'd say at least give a few of the easier ones a try, even if it's as simple as throwing on a super hero t-shirt or a pair of linen pajama bottoms.
This pretty much matches myself. The only slight exception being I might wear a smart Polo if I've run out of nice button up shirts. Last trip I had one button up shirt drenched in 3 bottles of champagne, and another got covered in glow paint. I don't normally do the themes other than white night. But there were plenty of guys wearing shorts in the evening. I just think if my wife is going to make an effort then I ought to also.
