I know rain is necessary, but since last Wednesday we've exceeded our ANNUAL rainfall... it's been ~100 hours. C'mon, Harvey. Give it a rest already! We get it. You're a Storm. Nobody likes storms. You felt underappreciated in your youth, and felt maligned when people thought you'd come ashore way south of Corpus Christi, out where there's not so much going on. I understand that's why you insisted on the course correction so you could hammer those folks who were congratulating themselves on their "good luck." But, really.... going Back out into the Gulf, getting your 'Roid Rage all fueled up again and turning back to hit my house here in Houston? Man, I have got to tell you, tha't's a dick move, Harvey. Give it a rest already. You've already broke all the records. Lighten up and enjoy a new day. *The above is tongue-in-cheek escapism as Harvey continues to rain on Southeast Texas. Terrible. Whats odd is we here in NE Texas (180 miles North of Houston) havent received hardly any rain at all. Is all of Houston flooded, or does the news footage make it seem that way? Terrible for anyone, but just curious how much is flooded.
The footage is very very real, they say 85% is flooded and I don't think that's a stretch. We are NE part of the city, we have only 1 way out of our neighbourhood now, the 3 others are impassable. I've lived in the ice storm in Montreal (as a reference for some canadians) and this is in another league. Both major hWY'S have parts flooded out. Pretty crazy here I'd say.
Marshe, yeah we're good. As for the percentage of "flooded," I'd say that depends on your definition of "Houston." Parts of Houston-metro are literally flooded under, 8 to 10 feet, but if you live here it was unsurprising as ever time we get a real bad thunderstorm with what I used to call a lot of rain they'd be flooded. But not at 8-10 feet, more like 8 - 10 inches! Our house, luckily, is in a part of town which has a slightly higher elevation, so our part of town's drainage worked as it is designed to do and we stayed --- out from under, so to speak. The people in the next bedroom community to the East of us... not so good, and it got worse and worse as you went towards Galveston. Oddly, I've not heard that the island had much go badly.
Glad to see everything was good. We are in kingwood also higher elevation and VERY fortunate not to have had anything go wrong. Some pretty massive devastation up here completely taking out town center and the high school. Seen videos of a seadoo run on top of 8ish feet of water. Some pretty devastating area's throughout Texas.
