My husband and I are both of Dominican background and I've been to both...the beach in Punta Cana is definitely nicer and better than the one by TTR. However, I would agree and just be careful where you go but you can for sure venture to other spots that are outside the resort. There's what they call "Downtown Punta Cana" where great shows go on each night, other restaurants that aren't part of the major hotels like "Jellyfish" and even beach clubs that many go to. Punta Cana actually has lots of great places to see. Last time we were there, we visited another beach..seemed pretty empty and a few locals were there but the beach was amazing (Playa Macao). A couple locals would go around selling beers, snacks, etc. but we felt safe. It's not all "doom and gloom".
We actually went to Blue Bay in the Dominican Republic this year (instead of our usual TTR fix). Cost next to nothing. We had an excellent time. Beach was lovely. Staff were awesome. No, not the usual TTR vibe, but it's weird how likeminded people find each other, and no one bats an eyelid when you're topless on the beach. TTR in the Dominican? BRING IT ON!!
Cancun, Dominican Republic, some tiny island in the middle of nowhere.. We don't go to a resort because it's in a particular country. We go for the resort and atmosphere itself. So, if they want to make 10 Temptation Resorts in 10 different countries, then fine with us, as long as the party is equally excellent in each. If not, we will go the one where we will have the best time, regardless of what country it's in.
Do you take a secured cab to the resort from the airport? How do you know the secured cabs from the unsecured cabs?
Everyone that provides taxi services is not necessarily an appropriate provider. A lot of folks offering services are "hacks" or "gypsy cab" drivers. From the airport, I would arrange ground transportation through one of the recognized vendors. You may also be able to arrange that service through the travel site you used to book your trip or the resort itself. Taxis are VERY expensive in DR, so you're not likely to come out ahead if you think they are a cheaper alternative to ground transportation. A "secured cab" is a cab that has an arrangement with the resort or at least a point of contact with the resort. Many times, they work with the bell attendants or security staff in a "kickback" scenario. A secured cab is considered to be "trusted", and they will take you where you need to go, wait for you or set-up a time for pick-up, and bring you back.
Now that we have covered taxis for late 2019, how do I go about making dinner reservations for 8pm on Thursday?
The real question is... will there be a Boobs Cruise in TTR DR? Because if not, we're likely to stick with TTR Cancun. Boobs Cruise is our jam!
I was reading one of their investor reports (public, not proprietary) a while back and saw that Florida and one other US State (I don't remember which one) is on their list of "other" expansion areas. No dates were listed, though.
I am looking forward to the opening of this. I would love to have a couple places like TTR to go to. Maybe a spring spot and a fall spot.
