http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/08/23/mexico-travel-warning-cancun-cabos/ Any else see this? I know there has been travel warnings to Mexico in the past, but I thought Cancun usually isn't on the list...
The warning is mainly for downtown and not the hotel zone so as long as you stay on the resorts and hotel zone you should be safe.
This still would not make me cancel or to not to go to Cancun, we rarely leave the resort except maybe to go the the stores across the street and then on a Boobs Cruise or 2. As long as there aren't any pirates out there trying to hijack a Boobs Cruise we feel very safe in Cancun. T
We've been to Cancun many times and have always felt safe both on and off the resorts. But Cancun is a big city with all the problems that every big city faces. If you leave the property just use common sense. That has always been one of the big advantages of TTR, you don't feel the need to leave the property.
Been to Cancun 7x... 2x in 2017 alone. We've never felt unsafe at the resort. That said, this is the first we've read of Cancun specifically being on the list. I'm wondering if the violence they are referring to was actually in the hotel zone?
No, the one newsworthy event happened earlier this year at a club in Playa del Carmen during the BPM music festival.
When I read the alert yesterday, if I recall correctly, it was mostly about targeted assasinations and kidnapping by the cartels, not random tourists being kidnapped and killed.
J says we are statistically more likely to be murdered in Little Rock this year, if that helps. Not sure it does. Lol! Although there WAS that one shady liquor store that time!
We have been coming to Cancun & Cozumel every year for 16 years even with our kids and have never had an issue... Tainted alcohol and drugging issues go on everywhere in the world. But I think I drank some tainted foam at the TTR closing party in September!!!! The cure was 20 lemon drops!!!!!!!
I bet that the State Dept.'s warning arises from the shootings etc which took place in downtown Cancun and in Playa del Carmen months ago..... and they are just Now getting it put up,. We knew all about it by the next day, here at CCC. Interesting, eh? Did anyone notice any big Cancun related knews about violence in the past week? If not, I bet I'm correct. It's a delayed effect because of what happened earlier. Someone will prove me wrong hopefully if I am...
