The beach (or lack thereof) at Temptation has nothing to do with who owns or maintains it. It has EVERYTHING to do with LOCATION. Resorts in the Hotel Zone have better beaches because the ocean breaks toward those beaches. Temptation is more or less in a "cove" almost and even its location in respect to being in line with Isla Mujeres have a huge effect on the current reaching the beach at Temptation. I'm not really a geologist I just play one on TV !
And because of that it's also much safer than other resorts(in the Hotel Zone that have better beaches) during storms and hurricanes - tested and proven to be true during Hurricane Wilma !
the beach used to be smaller, the water used to be right up to the asian restaurant, then one year they pumped sand, i dont know for how long but they added probably 30 feet of beach out into the water. that has shifted up and down a little, i havent seen it yet this year not till Halloween!
Did someone ask for a geologist? Yay it's my time to shine! There's not much that they can do really other than what they have since Wilma. Currents dictate how much sand they'll get up on the beach. From 2006 (my first visit) to 2015 (my most recent) the staff has done well to maximize the volume of sand at the resort. You'll notice that it's pretty fine sand, not any rocks or large shells. The water just doesn't have the energy to deposit more. On Isla Mujeres for example at the Boobs Cruise stop you'll noice (if still sober enough) that he sand size is larger and more natural wth a steeper slope at shore. And on that note nerd moment is done lol!
I believe the beach is about the same since last August. I think they brought some sand in so it is a little higher. And yes they added more to the volleyball court so it's not like playing on concrete, but theyay have added to much as the top of the net is only maybe six and a half foot high. It is much nicer to play on though. FYI if you like playing volleyball hasn't been so good (if you are competitive) the staff is real bad.
It's about the same as last August. Nice for a quick dip. They got rid of the "beach beds" and the hammocks though. :-(
