We've done 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10. 7 is perfect for us. 10 was too long. By that 7th night, we are usually both in the going home mode.
Isla is a fun day trip, especially if you go with other couples, rent the carts and hit all of the beach bars.
Cozumel is another great location to visit, though it would be about 2 hours of travel between the drive to Playa Del Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel.
We've determined that 9 days is perfect for us. By the 9th day when we are getting ready to leave, we're ready to get back home and see the kids. Now of course once they're out of the house, we might be saying 9 isn't long enough.
Everyone price point, and availability to get away is different. We have an extremely special needs 22 year old at home, an active high school boy, and we both work, so 5 days works for us.
Thanks for all of the input! I know this is a very subjective question. I think we are looking at 8-10 hours of travel time (best case scenario) since there are no direct flights out of PDX, so we definitely want to make the most out of the time in between. This will be our first all inclusive vacation and we want to get the most out of it without overdoing it. Trying to gauge it off of our Vegas trips (6-7 days feels about right) and assuming this will be a bit more relaxing; although reading through some of these threads, I might be completely wrong about that lol.
4 days or 10 days, you'll have a great time and meet some awesome people! We like Vegas too, but theres really no comparison to TTR. Its a pretty unique place.
We did 7 nights a few times. Sometimes it feels short especially when you have to leave before your friends. One year we did 14 nights and both of us felt it was too long. As we started doing the same theme nights over again but now all of our group as already left and felt the vibe change during the 2nd week. We got bored and started during more excursions outside resort. I think between 7 and 10 nights is perfect
Since it's your first time and you have 8-10 days to play with, perhaps you might want to split the trip between 2 resorts, maybe 3-4 nights relaxing and getting pampered at one of the Hyatt's all inclusives, then take a 5 minute cab ride to Temptation for 5-6 nights of hard core partying. We love Temptation but don't enjoy relaxing and/or not drinking at Temptation as much as we have at other all-inclusives. The Hyatt's in Cancun for example have better relaxing areas and beaches, plus there is not "temptation" to party on your recovery day. To us, Temptation is a world class hard core party, with super friendly people, where we can't help but drink like maniacs, and we wear out our livers somewhere around night 5 lol...
