Hey guys, I know this is going to go against VERY popular opinion, and some people are probably going to want to KILL me, but I just don't get the infatuation with the late night burgers. I know they are basically a drunk food that people crave at 2am after a day of drinking. But seriously the last thing I want is some thin pre-made burger. (and please don't hate me too much. I don't think I am better then shoving a burger in my face. I even got in trouble once for cooking them myself for a hungry group of people, haha good times ) But I just see so many folks on facebook saying "Need burgers...burgers...burgers". I mean do you party at home and constantly crave crappy ass Burger King? (cause a single from there is probably about as close to the PatyO's burger as I can think). I am not much of a fast greasy food person, and when I do make my own burgers they are always homemade with quality beef and other ingredients. I just don't find that thing 80/20 pre-made beef burgers are the best choice, when there could be so many other options besides these and chicken on a stick. With the place being more upscale, and costing more, I would like to see some better late night food options like a wood fire pizza oven, or maybe something similar to various types of street tacos. I mean I don't go to Mexico to eat stuff I normally wouldn't even eat at home. It's vacation, next to the beach, I would love fresh seafood and stuff like that semi made to order. **Disclaimer I have eaten the burgers, and probably loved them at the time, but I am a bit more used to living in an area where you can get banging-ass late night food at the beach or in the city, and burgers are never on the list**
And yes he did get a stern look from the cook when the cook got back. Hahahaha. I couldn't stop laughing.
I think it's one of those things that vacation makes better. People talk the same way about the bacon... We had a couple when we were there. First time they were cooked good, and the tasted exactly like the soy burgers I remembered getting in when I was in elementary school in the 70's. Second one we got was when they first opened for the night, and it was terrible, and wasn't cooked right. We're not "foodies" at all so high quality prepared food isn't really something we concern ourselves with, but I get your point.
Hey, I noticed a bunch of people expressing their love for something and I thought I'd just pitch in with an opposing opinion just to "add" to the conversation lol When I'm drunk and it's gone midnight a) my ability to order something a la carte is limited b) I know I just need grease in me to fend off some of the bed spins / hangover and c) I'm not going to remember some gourmet hipster-douchebag grass fed beef burger with garlic aioli and deep fried parsnip chips the next day anyway.
Why? Because at 2am I am starving and need something to soak up the day so I can start fresh in the morning. Is it a great burger? No. Is it a good burger. Maybe. If they had 2am hot dogs, I would probably be infatuated with them, too. They have a job to do and they do the job very well. During the day, I seldom get a burger but late night, they're a greasy slab of heaven sent by the angels.
Friend, you clearly have never eaten an In-N-Out burger while drunk. Its the closest I've ever come to being in a state of total nirvana.
Trust me I am no hipster hahaha. And I never said I wanted some douchy food like that. I was just basically saying I think they can do better then some 50 cent quarter inch pre-made burger. I get as wasted as the next guy, and I have no problem saying "2 meat slices" or "Crab-cake sandwich, LTO" or "Double meat pizza provolone mush wit" to some lady with a mustache at walk-up window in Philly, or a lunch cart at the beach. I knew this wasn't going to go over well, I wanted to make a new topic, I thought I worded my thread with respect and I wasn't trying to hate on anyone's love for the burgers. I would just like to see them, and add some new options.
A burger that someone else is cooking especially when drunk at 2 + AM on vacation smells great and tastes better, now in the morning that open grabs. T
