We are visiting for the first time at the end of Nov and are excited with what the resort offers, buttttt we also like to explore night life, shopping off the resort. I have no idea what the surrounding area is like. Is it within walking distance to anything significant? Short taxi ride? Any recommendations as far as leaving the resort for shopping/nightlife experiences? Thanks!
Unfortunately the location in the Hotel zone isn't the best. It really isn't near anything worth walking to other than the Ahora Pharmacy across the street. LOL You can catch the R2 or R3 Bus just outside of the resort and ride for only a $1.00. It will take you the short 10 minute ride down to the shopping areas and markets. There is a really nice area where all of the nightlife is located, Coco Bongo etc.... Be willing to explore a little. The people are very friendly and willing to assist. Don't be timid to ask for assistance. There will always be someone near you that can speak Spanish and English. You can always go into Cancun, out of the Hotel Zone but that's a little more risky and I wouldn't advise it if this is your first trip. Get your footing before heading out and ALWAYS carry a little extra cash, ie. $1's & $5's for a bus ride back to the resort.
There's not too much as far as night life outside of Tempation area. You would have to grab a cab, bus or Uber to go where the night life clubs are, downtown Cancun. For shopping there are some places within walking distance mainly across the street, small souvenir shops and a drug store. T
All we would add to this good advice is...be very careful if venturing out at night, the coco bongo, market club zone is very different during the day than it is at night, stay safe, stay alert, and as advised ,until you get your bearings, venture out at night only in organised excursions with a group..have fun, take care..x
Having said that, the buses during the day are very cheap, very regular, a great place to meet the local population, and a lot of fun, in a formula one type of way...lol.!
If you are looking for a great day trip you can walk to the ferry and go to Isla Mujeres and rent golf carts for the day. If we do any shopping or anything that's normally where we do it. We will spend the entire day there bumming around the island and stopping at every bar we can stop at. lol Great fun on your own or with a group.
agreed, great day out, and if you are, as Margaret is, enticed by beautiful jewellery.......Isla Mujeres is heaven.
Excursions wise, there is lot's on offer, we have done several, the speedboats in the lagoon was a lot of fun, lasting a cpl of hours, jungle atv, stopping off and swimming/diving into cenote's also a great trip..cruise/ several on offer including the most famous, Steves Boobs Cruise....there is lot's to do, dive in , have fun, stay safe, take care..x
Oh..and, if anyone happens to be scuba diving off the island and finds a gold wedding ring......it's mine....clapping those whom were diving from the sail on the yacht and ...ping....due to the suncream....my ring hit the side of the boat and disappeared.............who goes to Mexico and loses gold..?..lol.
