In the south of North Carolina you have to make sure your moonshine which is possibly tainted comes for a reputable shine provider and if it is it's the best homemade you can buy and you want be disappointed but you have to watch how much you drink because it taste so good you can't believe how tainted it is until you wake up and relieve you sleep thru the party! And apple pie is omg! Taste like candy!
I live in Wisconsin and I've been bombarded with this story and I tell you one thing that gets glossed over quickly is the .25 BAC. If your drinking and have .25 you usually have a pretty good drunk going on. But I highly doubt this BAC was taking anytime within an hour or so of there last drink. Chances are hours went by before the blood was drawn to be tested. They very well could've be well over .30 shortly after there last drink and that is getting dangerously close to serious health issues including death. It's tragic what happen no doubt and the resort should be held accountable on some level. But by no means do I think anyone should cancel, worry, or be deterred from going to Mexico because of this incident getting a lot of traction. Which lets be honest, its getting traction because of the way it was handled more so then anything else. Which isn't exactly surprising considering law enforcement and procedures and in that part of the world today. Let's not forget 50 years ago or so Mexico was pretty much a third world country in most parts, some parts still. Societies don't change overnight and we are probably another generation away from seeing a major shift in the law enforcement side of there society in metropolitan areas. This generation in Mexico is by far the largest "middle class" they ever had and it continues to grow and with that they'll demand better from there government. Lowering poverty down helps demand a higher standard in the local society and that change is happening all over Mexico.
I am genuinely curious why you would think that? Ignoring the logistics involved in a resort trying to monitor people's alcohol intake at an all-inclusive, one of the primary reasons people go to these countries is so they can behave freely WITHOUT all the rules and regulations they find in their home countries. It would suck if I went to a resort and found that I had alcohol police monitoring my drinking. Shit, for that, I might as well stay in the states.
You drinking the same kind of vodka there as back home? If I order a kettle one on the rocks it taste the same as it does back home. Chances are if your ordering a top shelf Vodka and it taste different chances are high the establishment is mixing cheaper vodka into the top shelf bottles. All is much easier than having cousin Juan bring in Old timer Jose's secret grain alcohol made in his back yard or where ever and pour into bottles. In the USA many times your illegal alcohol cost more to buy or similar cost to any name brand liquor in the store (outside of your run of the mill rail liquor). Just a lot more work to do the later than just buying cheap shit and putting it into top shelf bottles.
The incident that hit the news recently happened way back in January, and is only recently receiving "traction". I also read that the family have recently 'lawyered up' - coincidence? Who they intend to sue and for what though I don't know they wont get much change out of Mexico I'm sure.
Simply because if your a business when people come to your business there is an expected level of safety even in Mexico. In the bar business its the establishments responsibility to not over serve people. These resorts have a very high level of expected safety and many are very strict on it. They fire people all the time for the littlest of infractions(including at Temptations). We might think its a free for all but they are watching and they stick to pretty strict guidelines. Because of that even when accidents happen establishments are held responsible on some level. I've seen people cut off at these resorts before. I've seen a few times security literally go up the bartenders and point out a certain group or individual and say there cut off. I don't care where you are you can't serve people until there passed out and if you do you do hold some responsibility in the outcome. P.S.: I agree with you in general its very hard at any of the resorts to monitor alcohol intake. But when people are at a .25 BAC a large majority are probably pretty damn obnoxiously drunk, passing in and out, heavily slurring words, etc etc. It's not hard to tell when someone has had way to much. Lets not forget that .25 was probably taking well after there last drink. So a very good chance they where higher than that. I get where your coming from because I'm from Wisconsin and our establishments are very relaxed on the amount of alcohol they let you consume. I have friends in other states and where they live they literally will cut you off well in advanced than what they do in Wisconsin.
