I went tot he Doc a couple-few months back and during the regular intake part... before you actually get to see the guy... you know they ask you all the questions and stand ont he scale, take the blood pressure... look up your nose, down your throat, in your ears and your ears poke and pull and ask if things hurt.... etc. The Drill. Anyway, I stepped on that scale and got a number I'd never reached before, which isn't a winning feeling as lots of us know. 248 pounds. At 6'3" not So bad, but about 35 more than I'd really like to be. So, diet controls start, which are hard. And slowing down the beer drinking... which is HARD... and generally feeling unsuccessful with it. Stacia started me on part of the ketogenic diet she's trying to do, and we're supplementing with those ketone drinks. It does seem to be working, so hope to be in at least decent-er shape by August at DP, then TTR for Halloween. What are you guys and ladies doing? Just doing a climate check on the common thoughts...
I have always done powerlifting and it got to the point at my age it was so hard on my joints that I had to give it up. I tried everything. Finally I stumbled upon a place that does HIIT training. Kind of sounded pansy after powerlifting for so long. I did it for twelve weeks basically ate and drank what I wanted. I started at 204 lbs and ended at 200 but cut my body fat from 18 to 11 percent. I was very skeptical. This is not and advertisement as I don't own a HIIT gym. Lol. I workout 30 minutes a week for 3 days. Never though it would work. Look it up and see why you think. My wife just started the program this week. Plus my CArdio is better then it ever has been.
I am a big believer in HIIT. I joined orange theory a year ago and go every other day. I replaced fat win muscle but wasn't quite where I wanted to be. Orange theory is 30 mins on the treadmill at varrying speeds and inclines and 30 mins of weights and row machine. So my big change that helped about a month ago was low carb high protein eating much better. Been losing 3 pounds a week ever since. So now I am a big believer in diet over everything else but in combo with a workout is obviously ideal.
Workout to stay healthy....diet to lose weight. Wife and I both are doing the Low carb/high protein/moderate fat diet. Works better than anything Ive ever tried. If you get =/< 20-30 carbs a day, it will come off fast. We do workout some, but you'll never be able to workout enough to lose a considerable amount of weight without controlling the diet first. Low carb/HP. Ive never seen it not work.
Good for you!! Making lifestyle changes are hard, but so worth it!! Congrats on starting the ball moving in a direction to make you happy. It's a journey, enjoy each step and change.
in the most simple terms, it all comes down to diet and exercise. I get plenty of exercise, but my wife can fry a mean pork chop ........
HIIT and low carb is the future. the keto diet is too hard to follow for us. we are trying timed eating (google Rhonda Patrick), we eat for the first 8 hours of the day, then nothing after about 5pm- no coffee, snacks, wine (!) nothing... feels great and we do it 3 or 4 days per week.
I really enjoy the gym and the feeling I get once I'm done. The one thing I've experienced over the last couple years is the affect it's had on my joints. First it was my shoulder now it's tendinitis in my elbow...sheesh! It is a bitch getting older but I'm not going down without a fight. I can honestly say that I am in better shape going on 48 than when I was 21 and my wife thinks I'm hot so there's that going for me. Jim
Agree Totally , I basically just made sure I did not eat after 6pm and that made a world of difference. You have to find that happy medium of exercise and diet that fit your lifestyle goals , if you are too extreme life is miserable and it becomes a constant stress on eating this portion of this and that and not eating this and getting gym time. Just my 2cents lol I am not a trainer or even claim to know much about diet and exercise , just been on both ends of the spectrum and know whats worked for me. I don't think their is one certain workout/diet for everyone. I do believe some peoples bodies respond better to different types of workout. Hopefully we will get a chance to meet some of you. We leave for Sens on 6/26 and will be at TTR August 26th and December 19th
I workout 4-5 days a week, but the weekends partying and eating too many pork chops kill me....(mostly the weekend drinking). Also, I was recovering from an injury which prevented full workouts and caused mid-section gains, haha. Recently switched off from all the beers, Jagermister, JD fire, and Crown Royal, and replaced them with Gin and Club. Blows, but it's starting to make a difference, and now it's time to kick it up to high gear!
