Exactly! Should TTR try and change vibe, a good many of us would look elsewhere, and any struggling resort would do well to try and capture the extremely loyal former TTR customer base. We don't require much; clean, comfy rooms, decent food, and a nice area to play.

I might be one of the few people who thought the old Temptation was fine as it was. I know many have complained about older rooms, failing fixtures and a subpar beach but we were fine with all that and never felt it was a huge problem.

We thought the rooms were great. We usually only had the garden view room, but it was just right. Everything was clean, neat and just what we needed. Only one of our rooms ever had that problem of the water from the shower leaking on to the floor, but even that wasn't a huge deal for us. We are not worldly travelers and we've spent many nights in Days Inns and Motel 6's - so anything better than that, to us, was more than enough.

We had heard a lot about how the beach is "crappy" - sure it has lots of seaweed but those workers spend a lot of time and effort cleaning it up. Plus, while the beach isn't as nice as the ones at Golden Parnassus, it was still nicer than others I've been to (Virginia Beach, Daytona Beach and Jones Beach in NYC)

I also thought the food was great there. We never had a bad meal there.

Of course, as many have said, the best part of the resort was the clientele it attracted from all around the world. Friendly, flirty, happy people from all age groups.

I agree with many parts of this especially give it time, be patient and trust what Steve has been able to post. Now the people who go to Temptation and are also on this forum are a small percentage of who is there any given week, you would have to ask Steve for the numbers so the few of us posting bad or negative reviews on this site most likely wouldn't hurt them too much. One of the main reasons we found Temptation was for the price and for some of the bad reviews on the other travel sites, then we found Cancuncare site chatted with many people and had to check it out. After being on these forums for a short time and then meeting the people in person we fell in love with it. Now if the price goes up too much and the people change too a much different crowd Temptation will loose the appeal to many who made the place so special and they will go elsewhere. If the owners were really looking to wash away the old reputation of Temptation they should of changed the resorts name along with the remodel. We are looking forward to the changes and hope all the people we have previously met and the many we haven't met but have chatted with are still there along with the old sexy TTR vibe.

We were originally attracted to TTR because of the party. Every other place we have been has been dead after 9PM. What kept us coming back was attitude of TTR that it was OK for middle aged people to party like spring break. We have high hopes for the new TTR, but the most important thing is the vibe can't change.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I was using the term dirty because Angie and Tyler use the term clean up. It was in quotations. The Desires are much naughtier (or dirtier or sexier) then a topless party place. This is the niche of original resorts.... they go for the sexy or the naughty.

This is what they are known for....it's what that do.

I totally agree with all of this! I'm not a little bit concerned. I'm in my mid-30s so in reality I'm probably in that younger DINK demographic that they are targeting towards. I do love the fact that TTR has 20s to 70s and we've met some amazing people of all ages. If they do change we will just continue with these takeovers or find another home. The fun will always continue.

Temptation needed an upgrade!!! Everyone seems to forget that they are still promoting a topless, sexy vibe. The people that come are the ones that are social and friendly(the people make the party). How can they change the people?? I didn't run around the resort NEKKID, or partake in sex out by the SEXY POOL. Those things will still not be permitted just as before. I feel the changes will be making sure the dress codes are ENFORCED in ALL the restaurants, and anywhere food is served. The party will still carry on!!!!...........although, they may not allow us on the bar for body shots any longer due to safety :( ........ AND, I hope nobody falls off the 2nd story balcony during the evening parties!!! I don't mind paying more money for an updated Temptation.....it desperately needed it!!

    XOXOXOX

We agree completely with this. The things we heard they were going to change were things like no more bubba mugs, no saving pool chairs with T-Shirts, men not being able to wear thongs, no entertainment staff as before but more along the lines of what Live Aqua and Breathless are doing, whatever that is since we haven't been to either. It was specifically stated that the TTR CCC crowd wasn't going to like what was coming but we've heard things like this before from other types of businesses and it never quite works out the way the businesses think. We all have the things about the resort we like and don't like. Personally, bubba mugs aren't a deal breaker for me but for some, that could really blow up there idea of a good time. Some people may blow a gasket that they can't reserve "their" chair for the entire week they are at TTR. Who knows what will be the issues that cause some to look for a different resort.
I know we're in for the long haul..... of course we have a whole bunch of Premier time to use so I guess we'll be partying at TTR whether they like it or not, which may mean that at some point I strip down nekkid and run around the new BASH!!! Whoop Whoop Whoop!!!

The Temptation renovations were planned about 3 years ago, before Breathless even existed and even now Breathless hasn't even been open a year yet. So I don't think TTR are following anyone, maybe it's the other way round?

TTR are spending $40 Million and for that we have to expect prices and standards to rise, if prices rise then those who pay it will quite rightly expect better than before. You cant charge $4-500 a night and offer the same level you offered for $200 before. Nor can they keep prices in the $200 range while offering a far superior quality level. So I guess what I'm saying is that I would expect the new TTR to offer food and drink, surroundings, furnishings etc at a similar excellence level to that of Breathless, and all the other $4-500 per night hotels in the region. That's where the similarities between the two are.

Given that price point, it leads into demographics. What kind of people can afford $4,000+ for a weeks vacation? It's likely to price out some older people living on retirement income, price out many twenty somethings who are just starting out in life and those on lower incomes. Therefore the age range gets squeezed tighter at both ends, the disposable income range gets higher, and it follows that the hotel would be best placed by offering what that tighter range is looking for.

This doesn't necessarily mean it has to go all posh and sterile. TTR has a huge fan base (that Breathless does not) and it makes perfect business sense to cater to your existing following rather than start from scratch seeking a new one. There are plenty of those in that target demographic who enjoy Temptation in the way that we all know it and I don't think too much is going to change. I think they might try a few changes some will prove to be unpopular and maybe they will later revert them, others will prove popular or of little consequence and they'll stick with them. It's a learning experience for both host and guest, but I expect the balance to be found where Temptation stays Temptation and doesn't become some lite version like Breathless or Oasis Sens.

One of the biggest pluses that I think will help maintain the vibe is that TTR is compact and knows how to concentrate the party people in the same location rather than have them spread across a sprawling huge resort with 4 pools and a dozen bars. Their new design clearly shows they recognise that.

This is my prediction of Breathless vs the new Temptation.

    Food and Drink Quality: Tie
    Service: TTR Wins
Rooms: Breathless Wins (TTR tower rooms will be great, but there aren't enough new rooms to win)
    Sexy Vibe/Topless: TTR wins
    Nightlife: TTR wins
    Daytime: TTR wins
Location: TTR wins (Breathless is in the middle of nowhere)
    Beach: TTR wins (see below)
Price: Tie (after the soft opening)
    Occupancy levels: TTR wins
    Loyal following: TTR wins

If there were shares on offer in both TTR and Breathless, I know where I would be putting my money.
