So we just got back from Breathless. You can see our review below for the pros and cons.

Anyway, take a look at the two websites. Looks to us like TTR is trying to become Breathless which is more of a" young, affluent, Vegas pool party vibe" than it is an "adult frat party from all ages and walks of life vibe"... If so... I'll tell you it's going to be completely different than before from what we just experienced... Thoughts?

    Quick breathless review…

    TTR regulars here.

Just got back from at breathless on Sunday...

For those of you who are wondering about breathless, here are the pros and cons from our view.

    Pros:

Amazing facility: One of, if not the nicest hotels we’ve ever been to. Super modern, super classy.

Amazing food: Best breakfast buffet and dinner choices of any of the resorts ever been to.

Service: Fantastic. But to be honest, we’ve never had bad service in Cancun/RM

Drinks: Great! Top shelf stuff, and the bartenders didn’t mix everything college style like TTR.

Crowd: Young… I’d say early to mid-30s on average.

Party atmosphere: Good. More of a Vegas pool party than a TTR Frat party.

    Cons:

EDM all day long… I mean… All day long… We like EDM for the most part. In small to moderate doses. But 24 hours straight of untz, untz, untz, untz, untz, untz, everywhere you go is too much. And it’s turned up to level 10, so it’s not easy to escape.

A little too many rules. At TTR it feels like anything goes. But at breathless, they are trying to be a bit classier I guess. We tried to take a plate of snacks out with us from the buffet, and were met at the door by staff member telling us “no Bueno”. Also, when we were coming into the buffet from the gym and one of our friends was in a sleeveless shirt on so they made him go back to the room and change. Yet his wife was in a tank top and that was no problem.

At the club it was about 100 degrees, which is crazy since the rest of the resort is amazing yet they can’t get the AC right in the night club? I tried to take my shirt off because I was dripping with sweat, but I was immediately told to put it back on. We couldn’t take the heat after the first hour so we left. The good thing is, they did switch the playlist up a bit at the club, but that didn’t get going until after 11 p.m.

The resort is topless optional, but I’d say maybe 10% of the girls participate. Part of the reason may have to do with the fact that guys have selfie sticks with go-pros in the pools filming every minute of the party. Not exactly something you want posted on facebook live.

All and all, it was a great time and we’d recommend it to our higher end, classy friends looking for a Vegas style pool party 24/7

But for us, we prefer the no rules, sexier, more wild environment at TTR… Plus you can’t beat the people there! Our 2 cents.

That's an interesting question. Obviously, we'd prefer that they don't change a thing. But things ARE going to change, and now the question is, in what direction.

One thing to consider in your experience above is that you were there during spring break. I would be curious to know what it looks like the rest of the year.

If you've seen the marketing for TTR in the past, they always showed a young, pretty crowd, similar to what you've described at Breathless. While people like that are nice to look at, they usually are not as fun as one would think. Thankfully the reality at TTR has been more of a mix of ages and lifestyles, which obviously has been a success.

I'm of the mind that they are trying to go more like Desire, at least in terms of pricing and exclusivity. A downside to that is that you will end up only seeing affluent people attending the resort, which will likely change the vibe.

For me, a Vegas style pool party would probably be the worst outcome. 'Cool' pretty people there just to be seen, taking selfies, while offering nothing of substance to what has in the past made TTR so great -- a fun, sexy, crazy party place, with great people who attend regularly.

    Only time will tell..

This is exactly what we were told they were gearing towards. Unfortunately for them, not for us, it will be EXTREMELY difficult to shake the TTR vibe.
They spent many years building that reputation, so unless they are going to have security running around telling everyone to NOT have fun, Be Quite, Don't Do That or some other combination of Do's and Don'ts, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Things will unfold as they are meant too.

I'll never understand why in Gods name, if you've got a successful business model, have consistently high occupancy of your available rooms, and have what I would guess to be THE most loyal clientele for any resort in their area, would you possibly want to screw with that system and try to jump into a market where there are already many players? They can try to be the next breathless, but as one of the posts above mentioned, the reputation is already set. Once a naughty girl, always a naughty girl, but fortunately for all of us, that's exactly the type we like! And we'll be sure to do our absolute best to keep the old party atmosphere alive and well regardless of what the marketing people pitch.

please note... My "naughty girl" comment was not meant to be a negative statement in any way. They're the best kind, and I think it would be fair to say all of the lovely ladies at TTR have a little bit of "naughty girl" in them, much to their credit!

What we were told was the owners were trying to "clean up" there image in the local area. Now that the father has turned over the running of the resort to the son, they want a "new" image, more modern and accepted. Not saying this is accurate, but the person who told us this does know the owners very well. We posted in another thread that expect changes to come. For better or worse!

    Link to the changes??

We are fine with better food and nicer rooms, but if they are looking to tone down the party, we will end up going elsewhere after April 2018

THIS! We considered holding off until next April, having been for two prior April trips, but rolled the dice on a birthday trip this November. Fingers crossed our impression of the new and improved TTR doesn't result in this one being our last. And we're comparatively mellow TTR'ers, well, "shy" Canadian eff'ers anyway.

To add to the "Breathless was stiff and not in a good way" vibe, we have friends (early-40's, medical field professionals, MILF & DILF, 3x TTR guests) who went to the new one in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Their report to us was it's a high-end snoozefest in comparison despite they and a few friends trying to liven it up. The business model of an all-ages frat party with respect and the tease factor of the old TTR is definitely one a savvy hotelier would find successful.
