Yea sort of, one of the easiest ways to do this is to put everything you are already paying onto point earning cards i.e. phone bill, gas bill, electric bill, cable bill, internet bill, garbage bill, groceries, etc. Thus you aren't spending any extra money, but now each of these bills is getting you closer to a vacation. As previously stated you then pay the bill in full, if you carry a balance you have defeated the whole purpose. The other main trick is to take advantage of the sign up bonuses which give you a boatload of points, once you complete one then put your spend onto another card to get a sign up bonus from that card as well. Anyways just throwing out there that it can be done. Second year in a row we are going to Temptation for less than $500 total. See everyone in October :)

We have been using credit cards like this to pay for everyday items for years as long as they don't charge me a fee, the bonus $$ or points do add up after a while. Like you said the key is to pay the statement balance off entirely each month. You do have to have to watch some balance transfer cards they sometimes have a transaction fee. I will not pay a to use a credit card and hate debit cards, they are to close to your personal banking information. Also watch some of the point cards sometime the points expire.

In Canada the big thing is that one gets charged a surcharge for paying bills with a CC in a lot of cases. I suppose it is a small price to pay to rack up points more quickly. CC rewards programs in general are a "racket"; annual fees, min spending, higher interest rates, only offer partial cents / points per $ spent and can be hard to redeem.

For example: one major reward program (no names to protect the guilty, lol) only offers 1 point per $20 spent, the point value on redemption is between 8-14 cents per point ( less if you redeem for travel) and you can be on hold quite easily in excess of 2 hours to speak to a CSR. Yes there are other programs that offer 1 point per $ spent but the redemption value is less than I previously mentioned, are subject to black out dates, can only redeem on full fares, taxes / fees are based on full fares if you are lucky enough to even get a reduced fare and the "fees" are higher than if you just bought a ticket outright. There have been several news stories in Canada over the last few years on various reward programs and how little they really offer when all is said and done on redemption. Usually the best bang for your buck is on cash back cards that have no annual fee.

It appears reward programs in the US are better overall than in Canada. Either way some savings are better than no savings :) Sorry for the rant and digression from the thread ;) How the hell did I find a soap box so early on Sunday morning...again apologies, lol.

Yikes, yes- the American programs are much better, must be something to do with the differing laws. I always get more than a point per dollar, and redeem at more then a cent per point. Both Chase and Southwest my two favorite programs have no blackout dates. With that said, I love Canada and you guys have allot of things better up there than we have down here, so it all balances out. I'm hoping there are allot of Canadians there when we go the first week of October, you guys are awesome to party with. :marshe:

Overall bigger things may balance out... health care, services and the like but then again our taxes reflect that, lol, but I am being picky on rewards programs ;) Have to agree that us frozen chosen do know how to party; nothing else to do when it's even too cold for sex 6 months of the year. Oh my did I just say that ;) Bad humour aside, with our sin tax on booze we do have a tendency to "enjoy" our time down south...makes for early nights and early mornings...viscous circle.

Not sure on our vaca schedule this year due to work (and our currently crappy CDN $) this year but our window starts late Sep / Oct this year but here is hoping we might get the chance to be there at the same time :marshe: Despite Janice's best efforts I am far from normal...fore warned fore armed, lol.

Im just afraid if I put the house payment and vehicle payments on a cc instead of auto debit, it would slip my mind and Id get behind. Guess thats something you'd have to be vigilant about if putting bills on a CC.

Keep in mind that any rates for this fall are "teaser" rates because they know there are going to be growing pains with the new resort, possibly (probably) not all construction completed. etc. I know rates for 2018 so far are significantly higher.

So, to test your theory, I tried to book April 2018 on Orbitz. There are no rooms available yet.

I don't doubt that prices will rise somewhat. But too early to tell by how much. If they price it too high, they will just filter out the younger people, and with that, likely the entire vibe of the resort will change, almost certainly for the worse.

Orbitz and Expedia will list two different TTR. Pick the second one. I just figured this out with a little help.
