I received a call from a Mexican phone number (+52 (55) 4739 4808), the male stated he was an investigator in Mexico City and that his office had raided some illegal call centers in Cancun, and that my name and information had been found on documents there. He stated that the call centers perpetrate fraud by calling people who actually own time shares and tells them that the have a renter or buyer for their timeshare. I told him no one had contacted me, and that I was aware that type of fraud does exist but I would never be open to their sales pitch. I told him, since you have my information already, just email me a copy of what you have found and I'll proceed accordingly if necessary.
Not sure if he was legit nor not yet, but just letting everyone know, if you also happen to receive a call. I would caution you not to give any information to whomever calls and do not open any emails from them if they happen to be in .zip format. He even mentioned that I may want to check my own credit report to confirm nothing has been done in my name.
I'll update this thread once (if) I receive the email he stated he would send.

Interesting for sure. We have a timeshare also. It seems i receive fraudulent calls about weekly! They seem to work about every angle possible to scam us. I have to say though I have not received that particular type of call yet! Honestly, I don't give them the time of day anymore! Get tired of it!... but my advise to all is the same as yours! Don't give any personal information, and just be very cautious!

This is why I don't answer the phone unless I know the number or the name that comes up.

Update: I did get an email that same day from "Lic. Oscar Acosta", it did have an attachment to it named MYNAMEAUTHORIZATIONAGREMENT and what a shocker it was in .ZIP format. I obviously did not open the attachment...Lo Siento Oscar ! The phone numbers accompanying the letter have 52 suffixes, which I think is Cancun and not Mexico City. I'm guessing its just another angle at a scam of some sort. Here is his email signature:

52 is the country code for Mexico. The 55 shows it is a Mexico City number, Cancun numbers start with 998.

I received the call from the same number but with a different name. The individual is Ignacio Torres (email conpact@procuraduriagob.com) and they are also supposed to send documents. They claim to be from a government agency investigating fraud of confidential information released to illicit companies in Mexico for money laundering purposes. They had my email, full name and name of my resort which makes you think they know something. Seems to be the same entity.
