Tip how you feel and what you can afford. I would rather give a big tip to an employee that I feel did a great job for me rather than tipping because I feel like I have to.

And although the staff are happy for any tips, USD is ok but local currency is better, they told me.
Tip like a high roller and you'll get looked after like one, was my experience.

I found tipping really weird at first, it isn't done in my native country (apart from strippers, haha) and took a bit of getting my head around.
But damn, it can be effective if you want extra goodies!

We never did ask what the staff prefers for currency when we tip...maybe we should have, our bad. We have tipped in US$ in all our trips other than when we had change from excursions.

Normally we tip a dollar per drink / round (2 or 3 drinks), more if it is several drinks. Sometimes we do a bit of a bulk tip to cover 3 or 4 rounds of drinks for pool side service. Again normally... breakfast $2-4, lunch $5 and dinner $10-20, all dependent on the service (which is usually excellent) and where we eat. Housekeeping is $5 / day, USA Transfers driver $5 and the bell hop $5. Boobs Cruise is $20-25 and then $20 for Chinos' cause for cancer. We plan on $500 + for a 10 night vacation but bring more just in case. We are not high rollers by any means but the staff work their butts off and we feel they deserve it. Having said all this, tip what you can afford and are comfortable with. Also, kind words, patience and a smile go a long way :)

I'm no high roller by any means, but we always give something. The staff truly breaks their ass to keep the patrons happy!

We use to bring USD but with the CDN exchange so bad we will be converting to pesos and tipping using that. We tip room attendant daily, and for all meals. Drinks we do on a few rounds at a time basis. Our stays range from 7-28 days so it depends. Also I found that it's not about how much you tip but that you DO tip!!
The staff really appreciate any and all that you give. They work really hard to ensure everyone has a great time.

What is more amazing to me is the amount of "guests" that don't tip. I watch our favorite waitress Saby walk up and down that beach and serve drinks and barely collect any $$. Be generous ..they work so hard!

We usually tip daily or at the worst every other day for room service at $5. When it comes to meals, we throw a few bucks down due to usually eating at the buffet. If it's a sir down meal, we tip more. Drinks are different. At times, if we know that a certain waitress or bat keep ongoing to be working all week, then we tip them big at first and then we are usually taken care of quick. This year will be different t with our own butler that comes with the tower rooms
