Just a thought, with Temptation going up market next year and becoming 5 Star, does this mean we will get 5 Star alcohol (spirits)? Like every other 5 Star resort in Cancun?
I am sure they will upgrade drinks somewhat, the price increases alone should justify that. Although the quality isn't too bad already compared to other hotels imho. Although whether the hotel ends up a 5 star remains to be seen, I am sure they aspire to 5 stars. But isn't the star designation awarded by an independent body, and therefore out of their hands?
Have to agree with Steve, after being at other resorts in the area I find the be selection pretty good at TTR.
I do wonder what tangible benefits the customer will see, if any (beyond refurbished buildings), for the price increase. I agree that the quality of drinks and food probably won't get better. They have always been pretty good. Let us non-premier guests have a better quality tequila and more seafood (specifically salmon) options and you have me sold. What's interesting to me is that there's so much talk and outrage about paying more than we did before, but I did a quick price comparison for April 2018 to see where price-wise (after the soft opening) TTR will sit with other resorts, and it's honestly not that bad. When you compare the new prices with other big resorts, it's not that different. Apparently everywhere is getting more expensive. TTR used to be one of the cheapest options. Once it's back open, at the prices I'm seeing, it'll sit at the mid-range level, so not the cheapest any more but not the most expensive either by a good margin. We forget that TTR has been a bargain up to now; maybe Cancun in general has been a bargain? Instead of complaining about new prices, now I'm just grateful I discovered Cancun / TTR and got to enjoy it when it was cheap. I've been weighing up some of the changes that are coming, and whether they justify the price increase. What can validate the climb from one of the cheapest options to a mid-level position? The bigger pool (more room for chairs, longer pool bar) is a huge plus in my opinion. If the increase in capacity alleviates the 6am chair wars, and the 3-people deep queue at the swim-up bar, that'd be awesome. I don't mind paying a little more for those benefits. As for bars and restaurants. I don't really care about upgrades to the restaurants, I was happy with the old ones, so they'd have to be pretty impressive for me to think they are worthy of justifying the new prices. Get rid of the reservation system. Make it first come, first served, that'd score highly from me. I'll have to visit before I can assess if the new Paty O bar / nightspot justifies the increase in price. I personally don't think the quality of drinks or level of entertainment will change, but maybe the new location will add some value? I like the idea of the nightspot facing the ocean. It should be a little cooler without the need for industrial fans, but lets see how it handles those Cancun downpours. If they can keep the party going when the torrential rain comes, that's a plus for me. Downpours at the old Paty O practically shut the place down. Room-wise, I think everyone can agree the old rooms were getting to the point they weren't fit for purpose. For the last two years, every room I've stayed in the lighting was poor, room smelt musty, curtains were black / mouldy in spots, the mirrors were going rusty and the amenities were pretty poor. That was ok because they were cheap rooms. TTR was cheap, so I forgave a lot of the problems because I'd got the room at a great deal. I don't go to TTR for the room, but to justify the new price, they need to go beyond replacing the furniture and fix some of the major issues. Same old problems won't cut it at the new price. Add some overhead lights and a decent makeup mirror, sort out the HVAC and replace anything that starts getting rusty / mouldy. I'm not sure if it's the same in the US and Canada, but over here in the UK prices have increased for everywhere, not just TTR. What I have to decide is whether I can justify spending that kind of money on any vacation to Cancun, not single out TTR as the problem.
TTR has been a bargain because of it's age, "reputation", and most of all, crappy beach location. Adding a $100 a night for wavy painted rooms, a new buffet and nightclub? Nothing can be done about the location, although that wasn't the reason we kept coming back. We are going in October on "soft opening" prices, we'll see what the prices are next spring. We love TTR and all that entails, but we wont pay 3 months of house payments, for a week of fun, anywhere. I also wouldn't invest $40 million bucks in renos just to keep the status quo. Things will change, at least initially. Until then....COME ON HALLOWEEN!!!!
We're torn Trish, we LOVE TTR, but last Oct/ Nov spent 3 weeks here.....proper 5*, Grey Goose vodka, fabulous rooms, food, etc as standard....etc, etc....look at these prices! Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an in Riviera Maya with Thompson.... (for some reason the copy/ pasted link keeps showing me shoe ads!! )
We received a Members email back in July to justify their 50% rate increase - It would appear the "regular" guests will not have access to the premium booze per the email and based on prior Premier guidance. Will they upsell you a package on check in? We've seen 3-different colors of wristbands at their other properties so maybe TTR will do the same? Funny we just seen that list in the OR salesmans' binder, (sales kit) when discussing switching our membership to DRM, when we were there last month. There was a photo on the page of a cluster of liquor bottles followed by the list you have pasted, of all the slections to be offerred at the new TTR. Front and centre in the pic was a bottle of the demon's nectar: Fireball! And yet it is not listed I pointed that out, and salesguy said "I am sure they will have Fireball if it is IN the picture"
No Fireball at Desire correct? Our last trip in the fall they had it in stock, and then sold it to people for $35/bottle. They will serve you a $50 bottle of Don Julio or $30 bottle of Grey Goose all day long but they cant seem to provide $15 Fireball. It was bizarre watching the Manager bring a bottle to the Hot Tub getting a signature and then handing it over to the bartender. I seriously doubt TTR serves Hennssey, Remy or Martell at the bars. Probably leave those in restaurants and "additional charge" them like they do at their other resorts.
