I am taking a few moments to give "my" honest OPINION of Oasis Sens. This is for anyone looking at this resort as a TTR replacement during the reno period. Please keep in mind that there is no comparison to TTR so I will try to not use TTR as my reference. All of the usual beginnings of our Cancun trips, the late night before making sure everything packed also not sure what to pack not knowing what to expect. Brief flight through Atlanta and then to Cancun. Got through Immigration easily and quickly off to baggage claim. Got bags and then the dreaded Green Light/Red Light. What's it gonna be... GREEN LIGHT! Woot woot! Out to the transfers, where I was pleasantly surprised to find my friends Joe & Cindy from Canada waiting on me. They had flown in 30 minutes before to surprise me for my birthday. Great Friends. So here goes the important stuff. We arrive at the resort, met at the front by very friendly and gracious bell staff. They take our bags and we pay and tip our USA Transfer driver. Then we go in to check in. There was an obvious problem occurring at the check in counter. Several VERY upset people. Said they had been in line for 2 hours!!! We started to freak to say the least. Then we discovered the issue, OVER BOOKED!!!! How the hell do you over book? We tried to stay calm. After about an hour and a half we made it to the counter and it was smooth sailing. They had our booking as well as Joe and Cindy's and we were off to our rooms within another 15 minutes or so. The room was a garden view on the 5th floor, Air didn't work but everything else was good. The size of the room was great and was very comfortable with a balcony. We moved into an ocean view on the 8th floor on our 3rd day. It had a balcony as well. I would Highly recommend the ocean view and if you can get a balcony do it. Well worth the $35 a night upgrade. The resort itself is in a beautiful location, the beach is fantastic but the waves were to high and the water to cold to enjoy. Obviously not the resorts fault. The restaurants were as follows: The buffet sucked Ass! very few seats always a line to get in. Only open for breakfast and dinner. No lunch buffet! Very few choices and OK quality. The omelet guy in the morning was terrific though. The burger at Hippie Chic reminded my husband of the Jr High School cafeteria burger. Rubbery and dry. People said the chicken strips were good but we didn't try them. The BOX has two seating's every night, one at 7:15 and one at 8:45. You have to be at the door at 7 to get your name on the list and there is only 24 seats, so that's only 48 people eating here per night. The food was Terrific. The smoked salmon cannelloni was great. The Japanese place was good but the same thing about reservations. You have to be in line when they open. If your #26 after waiting an hour you still don't get in. Luckily for us, Joe paid the waiter a few bucks and he magically pulled out another table and sat us for my birthday. Service was great, quality of food was great and the atmosphere was nice. The Shillabar was far the best to us. Easy to get reservation, same thing though, be there at 6, put your name on the list and you'll probably getting in. No one knows it's there. Very secluded location by the pool where the throw the foam party. Food was Amazing!! Service, atmosphere. I will say it was nice because of the weather. On a Hot and Humid night in the summer I can see that it would be uncomfortable. Never could get a reservation for the Black Hole. Was booked up the entire time we were there. The Taco place next to the pool was good. The guacamole and salsa were great and very convenient to the pool. Didn't eat the sushi but got most of our drinks from that bar during the day. Marco, was an awesome pool waiter. Always Johnny on the spot. My husband tipped him a $20 every morning so he kept it flowing. If you want Guacamole and chips, just ask and he'll get them. Drinks were OK. Some of the syrups they use were too sweet for my taste but overall easy to be drunk by the end of the day. I think that's the best thing to be able to drink ALL day and not be wasted to early. The Pool water was very cold, but it is January. Not much activity in the pool or around it. Most people kept to themselves. With us, it's a little different. Cindy and I were topless the whole time so there was some attention directed towards us but nothing out of the way. Maybe 10-15 women with there tops off which seemed a little low for a topless resort. The nightlife was good. Kinky was a really nice place to party. This is the one comparison I will make. I think it's pretty obvious by my other posts and how many trips a year I make to TTR that I love TTR but Kinky was better than patios and nice shoes in my opinion. Here's how... First of all it's air conditioned!!! The sound system was very good. Not distorted and the overall interior was nice. The BIGGEST difference was that we did whatever the hell we wanted and no one said a word. We stripped down on several nights and did NAKED body shots off of the bar, danced naked on the poles on the stage and generally did what ever we wanted and nothing was said. Even got the bartenders involved. By the second night we had a bunch of TTR exiles partying with us. TTR people are magnets for other TTR folks. Funny how that is. On our last day we took a brief trip down to TTR so my husband could get some pictures of the reno and we sat out at the VIP bar since it's not in the blue walled in area and reminisced about TTR good ole days. We'll be posting these over the next few days. Also, we went over to the Ahora pharmacia to load up on good stuff and the staff was pleasantly surprised to see us. They said they miss the TTR people. Mainly because they buy a lot of Viagra!!LOL Checkout was fast and off we went. The shootings and all was going on but you couldn't really tell. There was a heavier police presence but it wasn't scary by any means. Sorry for the lengthy post but I know there are a lot of people looking for a replacement TTR. This place could act really well for that if more people booked together so they could have the vibe because we ALL know it's the people not the resort. Overall I would say that we were a little bummed at first but once we got our footing and understood how the resort worked it was a great trip and we would definitely go again. A quick shout out to all of the TTR exile's. Carli & Billy, Keith and Anna, Brealyn, and especially Joe & Cindy!!! You made my birthday unforgettable. Joe you're the best! and Cindy, I love you girl!!! I couldn't remember everyone else's name so sorry about leaving you out but your in my thought's. Don't try to remember names while taking tequila shots!!!
Thanks for this review! Headed there next week and will follow some of your tips..was also starting to get a little worried about the shooting situation but you put that to rest
Thanks for the trip report! We have a decent sized group heading there in May. Hoping to have a good time as always!
The more there are of you in your group, the better your stay will be. We only had 4 in our group but when we arrived we met several other couples and a few singles that were all TTR exiles and a few that should have been TTR exiles but had never been. It made the nightly party at Kinky pretty wild. Lot's of naked body shots on the bar. One of the bartenders even got in on the action. Don't be afraid to push the limits. No one seemed to care what we did. There was even a little skinny dipping in the late afternoon.
Thanks for such a detailed review. We've been to Temptations 8 times and was a bit worried about try the GOS. Your review has given us the confidence to book and we'll be arriving April 26th and staying for 14 nights. Really looking forward to having some fun in the sun.
Thank so much for posting this. We desperately want to find something close to Temptations in atmosphere, and appreciate you taking the time to post. It sounds great. We wish the pool sounded more lively as we enjoy the topless sexy vibe, but also body shots and some wilder fun. Maybe just luck of the draw with who's at the pool. Very pleasantly surprised with the review of the Kinky nightclub. That sounds like a blast, and right up our alley. The food and other amenities sounded OK for us, and as long as the place is clean, bar is open, and food is decent we can work with anything. We are willing too give a little there for a great time and atmosphere. We are booking for March and can't wait. Thanks so much for the details , we feel far more confident with going to GOS!! Reading a bunch of recent reviews over on Cheap Caribbean and it sounds not the best...hoping for a good experience...
Angie and Tyler!!!! We miss you guys already! It was so amazing meeting you both as well as Ed and Cindy! Caitlin and I were just talking about how fun you all were. It's so great to meet TTR family, even outside of TTR and I can't wait to go back to the new resort and start making new memories. As far as Oasis Sens goes.... I came to this resort 2 years ago, before my first TTR trip. The resort has improved a lot since the first visit, but still had a few hiccups. We booked a Grand Plus Garden View, and they had us checked in within 20 minutes. As stated by Angie, the food is hit or miss and reservations are hard to come by. The drinks are flowing, and always cold. The service was awesome, everyone we met was very nice, and worked hard to keep the grounds clean. Overall, they are really trying to make this resort fun, but nothing will ever compare to TTR. As Angie stated, go with people you love to hang out with, or look for other TTR refugees. These are going to be the people who make your vacation amazing! You can party as hard as your own body, heart and mind will allow. P.s Be careful of people with cameras and phones when you are topless. Some these idiots pretend to have never seen a pair of tits in their life.
I only listen to reviews by TTR goers. They tend to have the same perspective as us. We enjoyed GOS because we had a small group of TTR people that made it better. Sparkie didn't like the resort at all and has chosen to go to Desire for the June Junkies. The best advice we can give would be that a resort is what you make it. Compared to TTR, GOS isn't close, but it's the people not the resort. In several ways GOS was better than TTR! TTR has a lot of security keeping a watchful eye to prevent things getting out of hand. GOS didn't have ANY security visible and I'm telling you things could have really gotten out of hand at Kinky if we had wanted to. And I do mean this in a good way. I was naked in the bar dancing. That would never happen at TTR. Best to go with a group in my opinion.
