One thing ,, up here ( Canada) the first thing they do is dig a huge hole for underground parking and huge foundations ,, they are just build on slab there so that cuts down the time a lot.

Donald, are they really do you think putting up a... is it 7-stories or 8? Go shorter, makes no difference. a 7-story hotel building on top of slab construction?

There's got to be some stabilizing foundation, beneath of some kind, doeshn't erhe? This isn't my thing, but if the sub-strata isn't perfect, won't the building be at risk for... for lack of the right word, leaning over?

I,m going buy the pictures already posted ,, showing only slab construction with reinforcing re-bar coming out of the ground.

They probably put in some pylons too ( those things they hammer in for days )

Maybe some one can send one of those fancy drones for some close ups ?

At a shopping mall near us........they are building a restaurant called "Steak and Shake" .....a classy place not....lol. anyway......the foot print of this place is 35'x55'..........lol.......huge.....lol. Anyway.......there is significant structural steel in place.

The building codes in Cancun seem to be lacking......lol.

    Sketch......

I have cancelled our August reservations because the 'experts' here are worried about the foundation being poured properly. Ugh. This feels like one of those holiday inn commercials.

Sign #3256 that we all need TTR back open ASAP.

Concrete is self-bracing (and I suspect more preferable than steel in a coastal location), so I doubt you'll see much steel in the main structure.
I trust the local engineers and contractors enough to build a safe building. My interest would be in the design, engineering and quality of the HVAC (heating/venting/air con) and the plumbing system.
OK, we don't go to TTR for luxurious rooms, but having the desired room temp and consistent hot or cold water would make a better stay. It will also shut up some of the moaners... (yes, pommie couple I sat with for lunch one day, I'm looking at you).

I have a ex-staff member and good friend who is now living in Mexico, he is a qualified builder. He says the construction is generally engineered well, his biggest gripe is the slow pace of construction. They seem to have the pace going OK at the mo.
