I know I am early for xmas 2017 but figured I would throw this question out there for those that have been to either resorts at that time. We want to do something different for the holiday season in 2017 and enjoy a beach xmas morning vs minus 20 and snow, and get away from all of the chaos and stress it can bring. We are thinking about a 10 day trip covering both xmas and new years, how many of you have traveled during this time and is it busy? The new temptations does look very interesting and is a contender, we've only been to the cabo one and it was always fun and well kept (compared to what we have heard about the cancun one being run down and more frat party'ish). Thinking the new renos and higher prices will change it a bit, and many of the bugs should be ironed out by December with an august opening. Has anyone been to the desires resorts during that time of the year? Dead, or busy? Any feedback would be great so that we can decide which resort to spend the holidays at next year and start saving since our dollar is expected to get worse. Cheers
For Temptation (not sure about Desire) the run up to Christmas is fairly quiet then builds up again after Christmas for New Year. Also consider the cooler temperatures and fewer hours of sunlight.
Pretty much the same for both Desire Properties, from the 24th to Jan2 is usually higher occupancy compared to the periods on either end.
How times change,, 12 years ago we did TTR for the first time ,, was a last minute deal ,, the resort was empty,, now resorts are full at Christmas ,, more families travel with their kids,,,,, non-kid travelers flock to adult resorts to avoid them ,, raising prices all around .
BTW, your conclusion that TTR was a "frat party" is waaay off. There may be some times around spring break in March where that could be the case, but after a dozen trips, we've never seen it. In fact, it is the atmosphere of TTR that makes it, not the buildings. Also, we have never seen it "run down." It was the first and therefore the oldest hotel in Cancun. There were some things that broke down a lot, but the place was always spotless and they worked on it around the clock. When it reopens, most of the rooms will still be the old resort. We can only hope that the vibe will not change! As for which would be best at Christmas, I think either would be fine. Friends who have been going to TTR for the holidays say it is now their family tradition.
We are thinking about xmas week also, but initial look at the prices show more than double to previous years. We went for NY's and love it 2 years ago. Hopefully they come down a bit.
