    Hey guys,

OK so this is a little bit different then our normal conversations on here, but I am looking for some advice on a trip to California.

Elyse and I have a wedding to attend Oct 22 in Bakersfield, CA. Coming from the east coast, I am not really looking to just go to the wedding and turn around. I was hoping to make more of a trip out of it, but I am not sure how to make that happen.

Does anyone have any suggestions of things to do, that would be worth me staying? I am looking for something fun and active. (not looking to just sit around relax). I was thinking we could party it up in wine country, but my only exposure to that is what I have seen in the movie Sideways.

Open to any thoughts or ideas that people think would make sense for a avid TTR party couple. Sight seeing does not interest me in the least.

Also I am a member, so we have RCI. Does anyone any thoughts of an idea that would take advantage of our membership?

Thanks for any help and info!!!!

Bakersfield, CA - lol - "middle of no where"

About the same drive time to drive to Las Vegas(286 miles) from there than it is to drive up way north of 'frisco to wine country(313 miles - Nappa Valley) - where would you rather be.... :wink3: ... just a sideways thought for party people !

Its a drive but Napa and Sonoma are the place to be. Great people, Fun times and super weather! Oh and WINE! You can do Vegas anywhere now.

Thanks for the idea's so far. I hadn't thought about Vegas yet, but not a bad idea. Same distance. Only thing is I worry about how much money I would drop there, but then again I imagine that going to Napa wouldn't be super cheap either.

Bakersfield is dead, boring & hot. Your going to want to get out of there ASAP. I would say your best bet would to drive up to Vegas do pool parties & a club. You can also drive to San Diego to the Gaslamp District & bar hop. I live in SoCal & just like yourself we love TTR.

Bakersfield is the arm-pit of Cali.

Skip Napa & Sonoma - so damn touristy.

There is plenty of other places to enjoy fine food & wine in Cali. Head West to Paso Robles/SLO and head up Hwy 101 so you can see our epic coastline and tour through San Simeon, Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Carmel & Monterey. Weather in mid to late October is usually absolutely gorgeous with very little fog along the coast.
If you decide to stop in Carmel for a night, pick up a wine passport and you can walk to about 10 tasting rooms in downtown Carmel.

Alternatively if you love National Parks: Head North on Hwy 99 to Visalia and then head east on Hwy 198 to Sequoia National Park and see the Giant Sequoias. Head North to Hwy 180 and see Kings Canyon - the deepest Canyon is the USA - yes deeper than the Grand Canyon. From there, head back West to Fresno, grab Hwy 40 and head north into Yosemite valley.

Alternatively: Palm Springs is beautiful that time of the year and you could really enjoy a few days/nights in town. Lots of fun party people in that town and only a 3.5hr drive. As you will skirt along LA on the drive, you can always check out Hollywood and do some touristy crap. La Brea tar pits are always a favorite!

Pools will be closed in Vegas starting Sept 30th - October 10th so you will miss out on most of those. A few stay open year around.

    Enjoy your trip!

Is this like a normal thing? Why do they close? I'd hate anywhere I picked to not have a pool. I can't just be gambling all day, need something else to do while drinking.

Thanks for the advice about all the other spots. Still totally confused on what to do, hahaha.

Sad but true.... all the Vegas pools close during these times each year. IDareU has some great tips. If you guys come to SoCal, let us know. We can meet up for a few drinks. We are 15 from Disneyland.

You do realize it often snows in Vegas during the winter months and will routinely drop below freezing at night? Average daily high in November is only 55-degrees. So late October really starts too cool down. Columbus day is Monday October 10th. Expect the pools to close after that day.

Why I suggested Palm Springs. As the majority of Palm Springs is American Indian land, there is a large casino in town.
