As our 4th trip approaches this thread reinforces my view that we will be priced out of the market over here in the little old UK. All good things come to an end ??
Thanks. And yep this aligns with what people have PM'd me. The reality is it has never been 4% or less It is just more apparent now than ever that they are screwing people. i see why there are sooooo many timeshare sales people at the airport. I want to say everyone remember this when they do the presentation in the brand new resort. But reality is those purchases may help drive down the price for the rest of us and enable wholesalers to sell at a cheap price and fill the empty rooms. Quite the ecosystem they have created.
Part of the reason the prices were considered low and indeed could be had for a bargain if you did a little shopping around is it was never a five star resort. However, I don't think many of us requested that and still don't. Yes, five star is nice, but not a requirement for the party vibe this group generates, or at least did generate pre-remodel. And that is the problem for many. They much preferred the down to earth guests and party atmosphere in a more affordable package over five star prices. Now with a remodel looming both a big part of the TTR family and the fun, party vibe may be gone, all because management decided they needed to be a five star resort. I do feel bad for the members who were blatantly misled with their contracts. It makes me glad we never bought in, and if there was any thoughts of that you can bet we never will now.
We became members in 2007 and started at $92 / night and are currently at $148 / night. One thing that did change was our contract...went from points to weeks. Points gave us air through RCI at a very cheap rate but only 25% off the rack rate. Well that deal ended when RCI limited points for air to 60,000 per year (equivalent to about $625). We had 2.8 million to play with and after 5 10 day trips using points for air and the nightly rate of points we still had over 2.4 million points. The 25% off eventually could almost be matched on several discount web sites depending on time of year and the rack rate was increasing quite a bit...not a good deal anymore so we switched to weeks. We came close to saving, air / room / AI fee, about $1K per 10 day trip. With the switch to weeks we did save an average of $60-80 per night from the discounted sites the exception being Alpha Rooms when it was available to us. Not the best idea or deal we ever made but it is working for us for the most part. The new rates / TTR isn't quite what we wanted...yes improvements were needed and we expect as cost but this is more than we bargained for Did some quick match (and probably flawed, lol) based on May 2016 prices. referral rate was $210 at 25% discount...therefore rack rate was about $280. Member rate was $148. Difference between rack and member rate is $132. New member rate for 2018 low season is $236...using the difference between member rates and rack rates from May 2016 low season rack rates would be around $368 and about $276 referral rate. Lot of variables there that affect rates plus discounted rates from whatever sites but the way I look at it TTR ain't going to be that cheap any more. Scott
This is what I'm trying to figure out is it 148 per night or for a week? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just read Scott's that's not a good deal at all we pay around 1,150 per person with air fair from NY in July and April months. If we didn't book together the air be around 500 ... That means we're only really paying 650 for the resort for a week ...Or getting free air which ever way you look at it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When we booked a couple months ago for our trip in July I checked to see what the members deals are and what the cost is to buy in. I could not see where there was an actual deal. We booked our trip for 7 days for 2 with air fair for 2100 and change(flights out of South Florida). My parents have had a timeshare for 20+ years and loved it so I thought this might be a great idea but I just don't see it.
Just checked prices at Hedo for september 2017 and the cheapest room is at $347 per night for two adults. We are not premium members there but for $192 when TTR re-opens it's still a great price, heck it even is cheaper in the regular $286 TTR will charge in the 2017 high season.
I disagree. I don't think I'll be priced out, but two week vacations might be no more. Price of flight + hotel additional costs may mean we can only do one week per trip.
I don't think anyone is ever priced out of anything they REALLY want. If you want to vacation then you are going to make it happen. If the issue is money then maybe pick up some consulting work, take a part time job, eat out less...whatever. If you want to go to the new TTR then find a way, make a way. We will be there!! Nikki
