Scott, if I recall correctly you are long time members. When you look at the history of your rates has the increase really been 4% or less annually historically? I am sure someone could look this up and share the rates year to year and historical increase rates. My understanding was they had broken this rule in the past but we are not members so not 100% on this.
A red flag is when they sell you a contract based on a scratch pad ( almost illegible scriblings ),, with the words fixed , and 4% avg then it disappears after you sign the real contract. Bet you a lot of people would love that piece of paper .
Interesting conversation. We've never seen the value of membership. We always book a package with airfare and seem to get a really good price. For instance, we went over memorial weekend this year. After deducting the airfare (which Am Express vacations broke the price down between airfare and hotel) we paid $168/night. We met some members who were there and they paid more than that per night. They were not happy and went to the premier office. They said they would "check into it". That being said we did take a gardenview room and were in building 4. No veiw but the room was quiet and really nice. My husband bought a bottle of crown royal at the airport and put it behind the bar. So we really can't seem to figure out the value of the membership, but I'm sure it works for some. just our 2 cents.
We have been members for several years. I know when we started it was less than $100 for the first few years, the. It went to $101. I pulled my old emails with the confirmations to see after that. 2014 was $111, 2015 $140, now $148. I remember complaining, but I don't remember what the excuse was. All around may btw.
Regular rate for Octoberbreat 2017 is starting at $244/night from the Temptation website. I believe when the time comes to book we will be able to do better then that....if not I really don't mind a $80/night increase for better everything. Nicole
For fun I just searched 5 star hotels for next October in the TTR area....holy freaking expensive the 244 or 236 what ever way you want to look at it is a freaking deal, add to that the party and people...Will still be our vacation of choice just be paying more I guess we cut out one trip a year and all is well. prices were ranging from $700 down to $350ish I used hotels .com so they were discounted prices I guess
No doubt TTR has been a good deal ,, no beach and lots of mold may have something to do with it,, going to be interesting how they improve the Beach to 5* and get rid of the Marina's on each side and sewage outlets , in order to justify the new rates
I am finding this thread very interesting. We have never been interested in member packages/time share etc. We like to have the flexibility to shop for the best deal and not be "married " to any one resort. (we have been to Bluebay and Temptation Los Cabos). We have always shopped for price including resort/AI and flight. We can't believe the price difference if you keep watching a particular resort from the original price to the eventual price. When comparing what member's pay, we almost always pay less. I guess we are lucky that we have many options in Ontario to fly direct and both have a lot of flexibility concerning booking our holiday time.
I just think TTR was such a good deal before, that it seems unrealistic that it was going to last that way forever (I do agree that telling people contracts were locked at 4% increase was wrong, but that seems to have never been true). I have friends that thought "the price is too cheap, and seems fishy", so they wouldn't join us, no matter what I said. I am sure my pitch of "it's kind of cheap, because..." didn't help. I think people should just appreciate that for all these past years the prices were set so low that they were able to take advantage, and go on multiple long vacations per year. (which IMO isn't super common for the regular blue collar worker) I said the below on Facebook: (and I am saying this stuff in the nicest way I can, because I think there are valid points on both sides of this whole thing, and it isn't on me to say what is right or wrong for the community. I just know how I feel about it, and how it personally effects me.) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just want to throw this out there as food for thought. I don’t think you have to be wealthy to go on vacation, but things do cost money. And I don’t believe rates were going to stay unbelievably low forever. A quick search on Cheap Caribbean for 1 week Sat-Sat mid Sept these are the per night prices out there. (I understand you could probably look for additional deals/coupons, but I just wanted to quickly get some numbers at the Low, Med, High for an all-inclusive Adults only resort) Sens = $280 per night Isla Palace = $455 per night Le Blanc = $715 per night
