I wish I could agree, but if you price out either Desire right now in Jan/Feb 2017, they are asking (with taxes) $700-750 a night. This is on the discount sites.

Your looking at almost a year out. Of course the prices are near the highest point. Plus they attract a very specific client and because of that can push prices beyond what a typical adult resort only would cost with similar amenities. Temptations isn't in that market and when you look at the market there in $600 a night is just not realistic.

A couple can stay for around $250 to $400 a night quite easily at the Ritz Carlton(around $200 JW Marriott) and be on one of the best beaches. Plus have a few hundred bucks a day to spend on food and drinks. Which translates in to eating at some of the best restaurants daily that Cancun has to offer and amazing drinks. Le Blanc is the highest rated resort in Cancun and is over the top in luxury and you can book A.I. there for $500 to $650 quite often and rarely over $750. Live Aqua is right up there and you can go there for around $400-$450 a night quite easily. Temptations is no way going to be in that class of resorts.

P.S.: Who knows maybe they go way over the top and have some crazy luxury hotel. But that hotel isn't going to have the atmosphere or crowds that has made Temptations what it is that people love and keep coming back to. The repeaters that can afford it won't want to go anyways. So who cares about price then because it isn't what a majority of us would want. At that point more or less RIP what was great. Knowing what I know I can tell you they don't want alienate everyone. They know the niche they have and want to carry that over in a more modern package. Will prices go up, yep. But they don't want to turn there backs on the thousands of thousands of repeaters that flock to the resort yearly by pricing a majority of them out of the resort.

Then the best thing they could possibly do at this point is get ahead of all the speculation by announcing some preliminary pricing. Surely they already know what that is.

I don't understand where $600 a night is coming from?

It's speculation, and very wrong speculation at that.

The vibe and atmosphere at Temptation is completely dependent on it's lack of pretense. The new photos SCREAM pretense. I don't think it will work and the cost isn't really the issue because that will be determined by the market not them. The issue is that even the current teasers point to a new marketing plan of appealing to pretensive pozers not people looking let loose.

The reality is that the location and comparitively poor beach will probably make the place untenable to this clientele and the price point they appear to be targeting ...so it could easily stay a fun place afterall when the reality of the market hits them.

Also, They have become a time share company so I would take everything they say or release with a grain of salt.

I see a growing debate between the Optimist , the Pessimists , and the Realists ,,,,.

The Optimist ,, most are Members , thinking they won the lottery and are going to get a 5* room for a small AI fee, and are overlooking the resorts new definitions (Chic,, ect) because of the latter

The Pessimist ,, most are not Members and fear they will not be able to afford the resort , and see what high prices can mean the the type of clientle the resort will attact.

The Realist.. Construction Guru or not ( owner) ,, 7 to 10 months is a short time to complete this magnitude of project,,Room fees will increase for a short time , but then decline as bookings diminish ,, for Members,, rooms will be honored but AI fees and taxes will increase, the reosrt will re-open before construction is complete ( mostly up-grading old rooms) . The beach will still be shittyt, but the resort will be beautiful . Other resorts will try and pick up TTR guests.

One thing I read on their page said they'd start taking reservations for the new Temptations this fall. In other words when they feel very comfortable that without a doubt the resort will be done at a certain time would be my best guess.
