Its not the price of Desire that makes me choose TTR. Its the party that makes me choose TTR. Would I pay Desire rates at TTR? Who knows? Maybe I would just go to Desire. I doubt it. I want the party. I would gladly pay between Desire and current TTR prices to party like TTR. GF would must rather stay at a 5 star. I dont care. Again, its the party for me.

I absolutely agree. We knew exactly what TTR is with the outdated rooms and less than optimal beach, yet we couldn't wait to book it. The party, the vibe, the atmosphere makes up for everything else. It's not the resort that makes TTR, it's the people AND the party.

Old enough to know better, too young to care

That's very true for some of the customers, the question is how many? It's undeniable that some will stop going and others will reduce their frequency. Will the new clientele maintain the attitude or change it.

We were attracted to TTR because at many of those five star resorts the party was over by ten, but their other clientele was way more laid back. I would be willing to pay more for a nicer room, but in the end it's the party and the crowd that makes TTR special. We will have to wait to see the final product.

You'd be surprised through the years who hate/dislike those groups the most and it isn't management.

Honestly, I think many are reading way to deep into this. Brand new resorts in that area usually aren't built to be 2 or 3 star resorts. They all strive to be top notch. Yes, price increases come with it when you compare it to a 40 year old hotel like in any market. But in return you usually get a lot more from the resort for that money. The competition and the location will set there prices for them. They get to high people simply won't book in droves like they do now. So they'll be forced to lower prices if they try that. They aren't going to build a new hotel to suit a low value price on a beach in Cancun, they already have that and have spent millions upon millions through the years just to keep it relevant.

We will be there mid August.
I am wondering how many of the staff will be left ? How hard is management going to try to keep everything stocked, the place clean, keep the quality of food , drinks and entertainment level high and how much effort to keep the customers happy when the end will be in sight? Will the employees be willing to keep trying to be so helpful when they know that they will soon be gone too?

Will management try to keep costs down at the expense of our visit ? Knowing that a percent of their current guests will probably not be back after they reopen .

Here hoping that the CCC membership will keep everyone informed with trip reports as we come to the end...

Well first of all I have to ask if Sonny Crocket was the designer ;) Personally we will not travel more because the rooms are nicer! If we wanted nicer we would not go to TTR 2 to 4 weeks a year! We went to at least 15-20 resorts that were all "nicer" than TTR and never returned to any of them. By the way we are an older conservative couple, but we are not dead yet! We are very worried that the TTR vibe will end Sept 25th and I will book that last week. Walk by the five star resorts and listen to the silence, no music, no laughter, no borats and G-strings ;) nothing that may offend another guest. Yup when I'm paying $500-600 for that suite I better not hear thump, thump, thump at 1:30. Seems to me a pretty big risk to add 75 or so rooms! We will definitely check out the "new" TTR and hope we are totally wrong. I'll bring my white linen jacket, pants and deck shoes. At least I won't need socks!

Im in my 30s and my gf is in her 20s.

Most people in their 20s and 30s that go to Cancun can't afford 5 star hotels for any length of time.

The new TTR concept isn't going to ever attract the spring break crowd, the hipster element, etc. I don't remember any spring breakers caring much about going to expensive resorts during my college years either at 500/night. They went to the cheap assed places and the bars downtown.

Why do you think younger people will be attracted to this new concept if the price point gets into the 500/night range?

Traditionally, its people over 55 that can afford 5 star hotel prices. Alot of the people in that 5 star age group won't like the new South Beach/hipster design and don't like the aggressive adult raunchy attitude. Those people definitely won't like the TTR location and beach either at that price.

TTR has a niche market of people mostly from the 20s to 60s that like the adult theme concept at 3 star prices. Changing that concept into some hipster chic at 500/night probably won't work for most of them.
