Nah, no hate posts. To each their own. The resort you describe (enforced dress codes, quiet rooms, etc ) isn't the Temptation we signed up for. Maybe the new one will appeal to you in the ways you describe. Maybe it will appeal to me In the ways I expect. But it seems to me there are two different visions of the resort, and they aren't necessarily compatible. So if Temptation is full of quiet rooms, with people held to task for dressing a certain way for dinner, and the party ends early so as not to disturb anyone's beauty sleep, is it really temptation anymore? Or is it another tower resort full of "chic" people in their catty cliques that forgot how their party a long time ago. We will see in 18 months.....

It's the Temptation I signed up for.....yes, I like to sleep, the dress codes are published, just not enforced, did I say I wanted the party to end early? No. I don't want bingo & early nights and people who don't talk to each other. Neither do I want uncontrollable drunks groping women, puking in the pool and swearing loudly at dinner. Perhaps...just perhaps....this is the solution. :daisy:

I think there's a happy medium, LOL. Time will tell , there is an element to this new design that doesn't carry forward some of the best parts of the historical element.

Sounds like a basic price differentiation strategy to me, i.e. weed out the clientele you don't want by raising the price. Not sure who management has labeled as the "undesirables" - maybe groups of single college guys, folks who can't hold their liquor, classless creepers, people just coming for "the show", etc. - but increasing price is a common way to ensure some unwanted clientele don't (or can't afford to) return.
Take the "urban revitalization projects" in any major US city for example - knock down the old houses, build new ones, throw in a Starbucks and a yoga studio down the block to spruce it up, and now real estate prices are through the roof forcing all the so called "riff-raff" out to find affordable housing elsewhere. Unfortunately, this kind of strategy can come at the expense of some good folks too (which sounds like will likely be the case with TTR).

Somebody up top thinks the juice is worth the squeeze though.

As a young couple who will be returning to TTR for the second time soon, I'll chime in.

I can understand the frustration from long time clientele, but you have to remember that this is a business. A highly competitive one at that. Renovations and even total re-dos are part of reality. We also go to TTR for the party atmosphere and the people, in addition to the currently adequate rooms, food, etc.

At the same time, would we be more likely to go more often if the rooms were nicer, better designed, more modern, and full of more young people looking for the same party atmosphere? Absolutely. Thats not a dig by any means at the people we've met there and will meet there when we're back soon, but Temptation has to by conscious of what their next generation of clients will want, and they need to start attracting them BEFORE their current clientele starts slowing down their visits.

I get the nostalgia, but everyone has to understand that tastes change. TTR is not going to stick with current clients only until the very end. Then what? They've already missed out on the next generation. If they want to be around 20 years from now, they have to do a renovation like this. Frankly, it'll attract more people like us. Not to say thats better, but we could well be customers for the next 40 years. I'm sure at that point, we'll be complaining about a renovation and change as well. Its just part of the business.

I will just come right out and say it, no sugar coating it. We HATE the new look, the new colors and the new apparent target demographic. I just hope that OR reads enough of the negative reactions to the new Temptation and backs off a bit on the radical change. Probably not but we can hope. I also hope that we can sell our contract if our worst fears come true. We just discovered the place 2 years ago and thought it would be a place we would come to meet old friends, and new ones too, for years to come. Alas, we may have been a decade too late.

I fear your confidence might be misplaced. I suspect that the "wild party" crowd might be seen as a pain in the ass by the resort and that we are precisely what they are aiming to rid themselves of with the new Temptation.

I think it is disappointing to hear. I'm sure if they are investing tens of millions of dollars in a renovation, they are expecting a ROI. You can only get that through either increased traffic or higher prices. They are increasing the number of rooms, but I imagine the price is going up as well. That will drive away customers, so the question will be what kind of customers do they attract to replace them. As has been noted before, TTR is about the people and the party. Changing out the customers is risky.

I for one would like to say that moving the party indoor away from Patio's is a huge mistake.
