So I read all the news and I was wondering how the Membership pitch will go down now. I am going on a referral at the end of May, and I was thinking about buying in, but now with all the new info there are just going to be too many unknown factors for me to feel comfortable. I can't see how they are going to be able to guaranty anything, and I am not going to be able to dissect the legal contract. So I feel like they are just going to be wasting their breath talking to me. I really hope it is shorter and easier to say "no" and have them understand that without having to battle them.
We're in the same boat - going on a referral at the end of May. Way too many unknowns to sign (although I'm sure they're going to offer a "super rate" to book now). And it's not just the construction...what happens if the cost changes so much that friends of ours move to different resorts? Or the vibe becomes "less fun"? We don't want to be stuck into a long-term commitment until we know things settle down...
We just bought in last month. I am having very mixed feelings right now. :-/ Sent from my LGUS991 using Tapatalk
We also had a trip planned for November 2016 and March 2017 with a bunch of friends. Sent from my LGUS991 using Tapatalk
Not being familiar with the program, so excuse my ignorance, but is there an aftermarket where you can sell your membership?
We're members, hopefully this all plays out that we pay our normal AI fees and are somewhat insulated from any higher prices at least till the contracted nights are up. Time to pull out the contract again and see what is to be found in it.
I have heard of people buying and selling memberships outside of the resort, but I have no idea how the market actually is.
The clause on pricing for us starts with the first year price / night and allows for an annual inflation rate increase which is tied in to the economy. Over 3 years we saw an increase of around $20 / night per year. Following that average annual increase I really can't see us getting the new 5 star experience for $185 / night. Just for a reminiscent thought: Aug 2007 8 nights with air for two a tad over $2200 Cdn on Expedia. Bought our membership that trip and our price the next year was just over $80 /night per couple low season.
We just bought in December after making 3 trips in two years and figured we might as well. 156 per night in the low season, 250 in the high, USD. Hubs specifically asked them if they were going to be shutting it down for renovations and was told no. Asked if prices would go up much and was told no, only enough to match the 5% legal inflation rate...which we understand and are fine with. I think we can all agree TTR needed some work and that this is long overdue. While the new look is cool, idk how I feel about it being my tropical get away, but I'm willing to give it a shot. That said - I'm trying to be optimistic and hopes prices won't go up that much and that we are a little protected as members but I guess all there is to do now is sit and wait. If these prices end up being like Secrets, Sandals, or Pearl, it'll be too much for us to make it a regular thing like we do with TTR. So now on to the real question - Where do we all decide to get crazy in the meantime?!
